Week 43 - Great Britain F22 ($10,000) - Tipton (Hard)

Despite the odd close set, Brits were 0/7 against non-Brits today, though only one of the 7 was beaten by a lower-ranked opponent and most of us probably only expected 2 of the 7 to get through.

The biggest upset of the day, though, was a first top 1000 scalp for Joshua Paris.

And Marcus has just started and been broken in the very first game. Long way to go yet though.

And poor Rob loses the third set TB 7-5.

With Rob and Neil out, that leaves the bottom half VERY light on GB players . . . (not taking anything away from Jathan, Ollie H, Graeme, Keelan and Bruce . . . go on lads !)

And Rob C loses as well. 3-6 6-1 7-6(5) to King Matthew. It was very close as many people predicted it would be. Good effort but a bad few minutes in Tipton.

James pips Tom to the winning line 6-4 in the third - very good result for him.

Marcus serving for the set but has just had to save 2 BPs

Rob played very he was a break up in the 3rd set but might have been unsettled by a poor line call

Disappointed that Rob could finish off Roy, but was a tough draw. Nice to see Marzi picking up a win, but Tom F's form has gone to pot. Also Pauffley would have been expected to win that match, but his form is very hit and miss.

Shame for Rob; hope he isn''t too gutted.

Experience will help him - at Futures level, you have to accept (even before going on the court) that there will be several dodgy/plain wrong line calls. There's no lines judges, just the chair umpire, and he/she does their best but they're not ideally placed to judge all the lines (I've got my umpiring licence and it's NOT easy; in fact, I refused to umpire hard courts at men's national level, it was just too fast - clay courts are fine !). There will be some errors and it's just part of the overall package. (Either that or make HUGE progress and get up to ATP level ASAP !)

CD - some of the future tours matches do have line judges, but it is not compulsory. I'm not sure what the situation is in Tipton.
