Andy Murray

Andy will match Fed's record from 2012 of dropping 2500 points at the end of the Paris Masters week ( or not, see edit below ). Fed won the 2011 Paris Masters and 2011 ATP tour finals with maximum points and withdrew from the 2012 Paris Masters citing fatigue.

Probably not a record to aspire to and in Fed's case he only dropped from WR 1 to WR 2.

( Novak has twice, in 2014 and 2015, had 2500 points come off but in each case won that year's Paris Masters so only dropped a net 1500 points ).

Edit : was a good idea to actually check back on the historical ranking tables and evidently Fed dropped more than 2,500 points. Not  sure why at the moment. Davis Cup related? Don't know. Looking into, intrigued ...

And just completed the investigations. May I say I wasn't doing it the last 4 and a half hours, more like the last half hour or so with a bit of dotting the i's and crossing the t's

On 05/11/12 Federer dropped 2850 points from 12315 to 9465. So Andy doesn't get to share the record fall.

And the reason was that the 2012 Paris Masters was a week earlier than 2011 as was the preceding tournament(s). So the 2012 Paris Masters was on the anniversary of 2011 ATP 500 Basel which Fed won as well as then the 2011 Paris Masters and 2011 ATP finals.

So to finalise the race points for the following week's 2012 ATP finals off came Basel, Paris and the ATP finals points totalling 3000. He didn't play 2012 Paris so no points went on for that but he had non counters and 150 replaced the Basel 500. So overall he dropped 3000 - 150 = 2850 points.

Nice work. That is familiar to me actually, can vaguely recall looking at that at the time.

I said after the first set that Rog would win in a MTB. Didn't see it all, but the bits I did watch were good entertainment.

Kilt anybody ?

And the big question - how fit did Andy look both within and between points ? Rather rusty no doubt but otherwise ?

He got better as the match went on. Nowhere near as rusty as you might expect, although Rog could have pushed harder.
Doubles about to start, should be quite a laugh with Bahrami on court.

I caught bits of the interview he gave after the match on BBC Breakfast this morning.. He said that the hip "felt pretty good, not perfect, but going in the right direction" & he was hopeful that he'd be able to take part in the Brisbane International, which kicks off on 31st December, but that he would come back "when I'm ready & when I'm 100% fit", admitting that he probably made a mistake trying to get ready for the US Open, making the effort only because "it was the last major of the year & I wanted to give it a go".  That bit about his fitness is underlined in an interview with Stu Fraser in today's Times under  the heading, "Murray:  I must be 100% to return".  Sounds eminently sensible to me.

don't know if anyone else picked up, but the guy from the crowd that andy asked to play a couple of points against federer was Aidan Mchugh.

I didn't at the time, but thought he was a bit good for someone dragged out of the crowd. So all premeditated then - hardly surprising in hindsight (wonderful thing hindsight)

Andy was practicing with Thiem at the 02 today.

How's this for a practice partner?

Great to see 2016 #NittoATPFinals champ Andy Murray on Centre Court at @TheO2... hope to see him back here next year

Andy's limp after his exibition matches was a bit worrying ( the last time I saw Eleanor Dean was in Glasgow at the start of the year, playing very well with no obvious issue then visibly limping along the walkway straight after so I guess I worry about ongoing issues ).

But he does seem to be stepping things up. So here's hoping ...
