ATP Sydney

Boggo is in the qualies here and has drawn 7th seed, world 88,  Delic in round 1.

Tough opening round for alex against the big hitter who has beaten him on surbitions grass in 06 and the usoq in 05.

Sydney is currently 11 hours ahead of GMT so that would make it 2230 GMT tonight by my reckoning.

Delic was in great form at the end of last year too.

Lets hope he's rustier than Boggo! Ultimately its the type of match we hope Boggo will start winning regularly.

Alex has lost to Delic twice - 6-4 7-6(7) at the USO in 2005 and 7-6(2) 3-6 6-4 at the Surbiton Challenger last year.

Delic had a great end to 2006 - two Challenger wins and two more finals took him into the top 100. (he's actually WR 93 not 88, not that it makes much difference)

The qualies draw in Sydney is really, really strong, cut is 166 ! Mackin signed in but missed by miles which was a shame.

Alex is in the best section, but Delic is going to be really tough. In 2006, he reached no less than 6 challenger finals !! Two semis aswell. Most of those were on North American hard courts, the rebound ace is Australia is just as bouncy but a little slower, not sure who that will favour. Delic got an Aussie Open wc aswell in 2006 as part of the Tennis Australia-USTA agreement, he won a round before losing to Nathan Healey (ranked outside top 200 at the time). Delic's game is based around a really massive serve, he has an all-court game, looks to hit big groundstrokes and get into the net when possible - stereotypical US player. His big weapon from the baseline is his single-handed backhand.

Both those previous two matches have been really close, however Alex is a much better player now than he was then. Hopefully he can keep the memories of those previous two losses out of his mind.

Good news is that there's live scores for Sydney. Bad news is that Boggo v Delic is on court 9 so probably won't be on the scoreboard

Match starts at 22.30 GMT tonight

I think that they can fit 3 live scores on there....maybe they'll do 1, 2 and 9 , sometimes they do bizarre things like that.

Good luck to Boggo this evening.

(I've pulled the pins out of Davydenko's doll and into Delic's - they seem to be working well )

166 is a ridiculous cut off for qualies! Last year's ATP Beijing had a main draw cut off of 195.

Best of luck to Boggo.
