ATP Auckland 2007

Only Jamie Baker in qualies here. He plays Wesley Whitehouse WR 383 from South Africa in round 1 and would need to take care of seeds Simon Greul WR 82 and Nicolas Lapentti WR 67 to make the main draw - pretty tough but good match practice for Aus Open qualies!!

I tihnk he lost to Whitehouse in USA at the bac end of last year. Hope he can reverse that.

Greul is flashy so I've heard. CAn be great but can be rubbish.

All the best of luck for Jamie!

Play starts in 10 minutes and Jamie is 3rd up on Court 3. Wonder if there will be live scores. Anyone else gonna be around for that match?

There are live scores so we'll be able to follow it.

Go to the ATP site, scroll down and you'll find a link for scores from Sydney and Auckland.

should start at around midnight, I'll be around if anyone else is ?

Yeah that was in qualifying for one of the US challengers. Score was something like 7-5, 6-2. Jamie's form is a lot better now, I've heard. Training in Florida with the Gilbert and the Murray brothers has boosted his confidence and he's been working on several aspects of his game.

Whitehouse is a leftie ranked 383 (career best of 214 reached in 2004). Whitehouse's form swings are quite bizarre. For most of 2006, he was losing in rd1 or the qualifying for challengers. Then he plays ATP Indianapolis and he qualifies, thrashes Safin and Gimelstob in straights and then nearly beats Blake before losing in 3.

Greul is a very hard hitter but when off form he makes loads and loads of ues. Boggo played him in RG qualies a few years ago and Greul made something like 70 ues.

I've got my ticket to the first day of the tournament next Monday so will of course come back with pics and a review. Can't find the qualifying results for today unfortunately.
Got a really strong field this year including Ancic, Robredo, Ferrero, Niemenen, Rochus, Ferrer, Massu, Chela, Gaudio and Monfils to name a few. Looking forward to it.

QR1: Jamie Baker WR 315 beat Wesley Whitehouse (RSA) WR 383 by 6-4 3-6 7-5

Jamie matches Boggo's Sydney QR1 feat by beating a player he had a losing record against (5 & 2 in Nashville last year) before despite losing the 2nd set.

QR2: Jamie Baker WR 315 v (6) Simon Greul (GER) WR 82

Jamie is 2nd on Court 7 on Sunday at about, which means about 23.30 GMT on Saturday. In the last two years, Greul has lost to Boggo twice but has beaten Sherwood, Mackin and Henman, the latter in that mad match in Miami where Tim bagelled him in the 1st set.
