Boggo is going for Heilbronn and is the 16th name in a strong list. Jamie Baker is going for Waikiloa and is the 7th name in the alts list.

The cut for the 125K+H in Durban is... surprise surprise! As low as 251! Alan Mackin is second in the Alts out there.

This is a great opportunity for our players.
Josh Goodall is likely to be seeded!

WCs will be a dilemma once again....

Jamie Baker is going to the US.
James Auckland could still be active in AO doubles. If he isn't, Heilbronn is more likely a destination because of the doubles points on offer.
Lee Childs should get one.
Jamie Delgado should head for Heilbronn for doubles. Giving him a WC here wouldn't exactly be a shrewd investment because Delgado is more interested in doubles.
Morgan Phillips isn't much of a candidate because he is a clay courter.
Matt Smith may get one.

Then there is Ian Flanagan, Tom Rushby, Neil Bamford (Doubles player; but he tries hard for singles points, too. Doubt that he is a very good singles prospect), Ross Hutchins (Isn't much interested in singles, so he shouldn't get one), Andrew Kennaugh, Chris Eaton, Alex Slabinsky, Myles Blake, Rob Searle.

Miles Kasiri can get one if he plays the Futures and does well.

Juniors have been given wild cards into the last two Challengers, so here is what our top guys will be doing that week:

Grame Dyce will be in Australia.
Daniel Cox will be in Australia.
Daniel Evans, David Rice and Josh Milton will be in Slovakia the week before, so it's extremely likely that they will travel to the Czech Republic during Wrexham. We will get to know that in the next few days.

I reckon that Flanagan and Milton can claim for one because they are Welsh.

hmm, boggo would have been comfortably the top seed here and at home(ish) in an event he won last year but chose to go else where, i guess its still real good to see him pushing for the bigger events as it shows he believes he can make it and is no longer content at his current level, even though it may backfire

I think he got a taste opf the atp life in thailand and wants more :)

Wrexham is a particularly unappealing event with no spectator viewing facilities except for an enclosed 'goldfish bowl' from where you can only see one court.

Really poor and not fit to hold a Challenger event at all.

I was thinking of going for the Friday quarter-finals but I don't think I'm going to be able to do it now...my exams finish on the Thursday afternoon and I'll have been up to my neck in them all that week so I don't think I'll have enough time to persuade my parents to buy my ticket ! It'll be pretty expensive

When are you coming to London for your uni open day ? The following week (starting on the 30th, there's a women's 25K in Sutton). Definately going to that on at least one day, especially as Webley-Smith has entered

I think it's a good decision from Boggo. He would have been top seed in Wrexham but would have had to win the tournament in order to defend all his points and that would be by no means certain with the likes of Guccione, Haase and Cakl in the draw. Playing in Germany means that if he makes the semis there, he'll actually gain some points !

I also remember that Heilbronn has quite a decent website. I told him during the off-season to play some more fan-friendly tournaments so maybe he's taken that into account

lol - actually i think we saw this last year as i said b4, al is now always opting for the bigger events over the little ones, i think this shows his determination/belief, esp as he is missing a 'home' event for it.

also with guci's amazing run Al wouldnt have been the top seed either. are the weeks running correctly this year or will it be another one either points dropping off at the wrong time?

hopefuly al can do a guci run at the ao tho.

Regarding wildcards....assuming that Mackin gets in directly or goes to South Africa:

Probably going to be Childs and 3 of the younger guys. If Slabba does well over the next couple of weeks then maybe he'll be offered one. He definately isn't going for qualies, much better chance of winning ranking points in France, so he'll head there if he isn't offered a wildcard.

Phillips has entered the 10K on French clay so that rules him out. Searle and Blake's form hasn't been very good recently and for some reason Searle didn't play in Sheffield.

Rushby would be a good choice imo, he's done very well recently, won the British tour event and got a ranking point in Sheffield. The wildcards will be decided by the LTA representatives in Wrexham so I don't think they'll favour Welsh players.

Kasiri will probably be staying in the States. With the new LTA policy, 2 wildcards at least will probably go to juniors. Evans got one in November, it looks like they're giving them on a rota basis maybe Milton/Rice and Thornley will get them ?

If it was me I'd give Childs, Rushby, Slabba and Kennaugh wildcards. All of those 4 could possibly win a round in the challenger given a decent draw. None of our juniors are anywhere near the standard required to win a challenger level match yet. Apart from Dan Cox and Sean Thornley none have been close to winning a rd1 futures match so far and there's a huge gulf between challengers and futures.

Evans, Rice and Milton are going to the Czech Republic during that week.
It's possible that they'll cancel it if they are given a WC, but I can confirm that Rice and Milton intend to make the trip to Slovakia and the Czech Republic. No concrete news concerning Evans....

So it looks like Thornley will play a Challenger next!

USM, Evans has been close to winning a Futures match on two occasions. He even took a set off Auckland on indoors.
