Jane O’Donoghue, one of Britain’s top tennis players, says making the University of Bath her training base has given her tennis career a new lease of life.
The 23-year-old, originally from Wigan, is currently number 11 in the British women’s rankings and 383 in the world, but is determined to work her way higher up the rankings again. A year ago she was second in the British rankings and she has a career high world ranking of 185.
“Being here has given me a new lease of life,” said Jane. “It’s transformed my game and made it much better.
“I plateaued out for a couple of years. In the space of a couple of months I feel like I’ve improved rapidly and I hope that continues,” she added. “It’s the perfect training base and I wish I’d come here a couple of years ago. The facilities are fantastic and I love the atmosphere and the environment.”
Jane returns to action in January, when she plays in two tournaments in Florida - and she can’t wait.
“I feel like it’s all coming together now and I’m looking forward to 2007, which is the way it should be. I’ve got my hunger back again and I can’t wait to get back on the court,” said the former Great Britain Fed Cup team member.
