I'm just interested to find out from Arka, what happens in India over Christmas ?
I realise that Indians don't celebrate it as a religious festival but I wondered if you maybe still have gifts, christmas trees, special festive curries etc due to western influence ??
Which is your equivalent religious festival to Christmas ?
Interesting topic! When I first saw it, I thought that it was some joke or something else funny relating to Christmas in India...
You see... India has a huge population count as we all know. Christians are a minority here, around 2.3%. But 2.3% of India's population is over 40% of Britain's population. So Christmas is far from neglected out here.
Gifts, Christmas trees and the like are very common. But I will surely not get any.
This is a bit off topic, but did you know that there are theories which state that Jesus passed away in India?
(Don't touch these links if you aren't interested in nerdy things which will get you nowhere in life)
You must remember that there are thousands of people from every religion out here. And even 1% of our total population is greater than the total of many European countries. And every single state has it's own different festivals and customs. Here are major Hindu festivals of my state, which is called West Bengal :
Durga Puja is the biggest festival out here. We get a long holiday of over one month during the months of September/October/November.
