Sears becomes Fed Cup Captain

Presumably this comes as little surprise following his appointment to the LTA. PLease would someone explain this role to me, is it the same as the DC Captain for the men? (I know next to nothing about the Fed Cup!) Thanks.

Yep! As far as I know its pretty much an exact opposite.

Oh except that Sears is a winner (like Lloyd) who takes care of people and nurtures talent that needs confidence (unlike Lloyd)

Thanks Johnny, hopefully he's better than Lloyd then!

What's the structure of the Fed Cup? Do we tend to do relatively well in it or poorly?

I thin we're ranked about 30.

We don;t do that great but I'm really hopeful that Sears and Maes can do something big with Cavaday, Stoop, O'Brien, Keothvong and Bally!

On the positive side, we'd take Leichtenstein apart! ;P

We're pretty much in the same position as in Davis Cup, although DC has 1 big World Group of 16 teams and Fed Cup has 2 World Group of 8 teams. Oh, and our Fed Cup team did better then our Davis Cup team last year despite being on foreign soil for all their matches and their worst surface.

Aye, only losing out to the Slovak Republic 2-1 in a promotion playoff to play in the World Group II playoffs. So the gals done not too bad last season in the Fed Cup.
