Moorilla Hobart International 2007

Since Georgie Stoop winning her first 25k last week, Stoop as well as the first 2 winners of the 3 week tour in Australia got a Qualie WC for Hobart! So we'll keep on eye on her progree, hopefully she'll win a round in the qualies!

HA!!! this tournament is a weak one... the top seed here in 06 was Katarina Srebotnik... *rolls eyes* Michaela Krajicek won the title then too... i think they can qualify and win a round or two...

Qualifying starts on Saturday 6th.

Also likely to be there are Anne Keothavong, Mel South, Katie O'Brien and Naomi Cavaday.

Naomi mentioned in her LTA player diary that she was going to play Hobart prior to the Aussie Open juniors. Maybe she's got a qualies wc aswell as she surely won't make the cur otherwise ?

There aren't any 10Ks or 25Ks in Australia in Jan so Georgie's going to be going all the way over there just for one tournament ! It's great that the Aussies have offered her a wildcard though, I think a British player deserves one after all the freebies we've handed out to Scud and Todd Reid over the past few years !!

Anne has qualified for Hobart in the past, hopefully she can repeat the feat !

Naomi playing here is a possibility as she withdrew from the G1 in Traralgon.

She mentioned playing here in her LTA diary so it's been in her plans for a while. If so,, she must have been offered a wildcard as otherwise she won't make the cut

dissapointing that Stoop not playing here! I dont know what the other girls are doing but Keothavong made the qualies draw. unfortunately, she's drawn against Akiko Nakamura, the top seed Hopefully, Anne is able to give a good showing. Furthermore, playing Nakamura may give her the edge since the head to head is 2-1 in Anne's favour. But Anne last beat her in 2004

It's a shame that Georgie didn't take her wildcard but that would have meant going all the way to Australia just for one tournament as she won't make AO qualies and there are no 10Ks/25Ks down under till Feb.

The Hobart qualies cut was really high, neither Mel or Katie came close to making it. Anne just scraped in, hopefully she can qualify or at least win a couple of matches. She's qualified here before several times.

Anne was 6-1, *4-3 down when rain stopped play. Nakamura has a break in the 2nd set but there have been something like 5 breaks so far in set 2.

In the 1st set, Nakamura broke to lead 3-1. Anne had 0-40 in the next game but missed all 3 bps.

Anne is missing her opportunity here as her first serve has been below 40%, if she can break Nakamura when they come back out and then start to find her service rhythm, it could go to a 3rd as Nakamura is also really struggling to hold.

LTA's Hobart preview:

World No.144 Keothavong says she is keen to put a disappointing week in Auckland behind her where she lost in the first round of the qualifying at this week’s ASB Classic.

“I didn’t think I’d get into the qualies in Hobart,” the Londoner said.

“I was the last player into the draw as one of the Chinese girls forgot to sign in for the qualifying event!

“I haven’t played Nakamura for a while and it will be a tough match, but I’m looking forward to having a better week than I did in New Zealand.”

Unfortunately it's still raining in Australia. No matches have got underway so far today and none of them look like doing so for at least another couple of hours as it's apparently chucking it down !
