Yeah, it's a rather bizarre schedule; same next week aswell.

The good thing is that it gives our players more chance to get used to the courts and balls.

The dangermen to Josh's chances of making the final are Kamke, Juska and Bubka imo.
Kamke has beaten Lee Childs and Neil Bamford very comfortably recently and took a set off the big serving Ryderstedt last week.

Is it offficially the end of the season? if so, then may some tournaments are doing later starts to allow players more time recuperate or probably not lot of tennis happening at this time so decided to slow down the schedule.

Richard Stera (Unranked) is the only Brit in the qualies draw.
Stera plays world number 737 Karel Triska of the Czech Republic.

Filip Polasek (WR 653) is the top seed, so it could be that Slabba is in the main draw.

Slabba , Hutchins and Bamford were all above Polasek in the MD list so could all have made MD.

Suprised that Jim May's not in qualies for this.

I think that May knows by now that he has a greater chance of "reaching the top" by playing doubles. So it could be that he doesn't want to get tired by playing singles qualies.

I spoke to him at Shrewsbury, and he said he was playing quite well in the singles and definitely was intending to go and play singles qualies.

I'm sure he's aware of the likelihood of him ever making a real living out of singles is remote, but I think he wants to still be able to enter futures and hasnt given up on playing singles.

Perhaps Searle and the lower ranked Brits headed to Tunisia?

Stera lost 61 61 in QR1. Unsurprisingly!

ITF mens have updated the entry list.

Mertl withdrew so Josh will be top seed as Greenleaf says.

Slabba, Bammy and Hutch will have made the main draw.

Josh has 71 ranking spots on the 2nd seed and over 100 on the third seed.

Hopefully he can cope with the pressure of the fact that he really should win this week!

Depends how you define the end of the season

This is the final week of challengers for 2006 with a 50K in Maui being the last tournament, unfortunately no Brits headed there.

However; futures-wise, the season never ends !!! [which is great for the fans !] Next week there's another 15K in the Czech Republic plus tournaments in Israel, Brazil and Tunisia. Then there's a week with no tournaments followed by two weeks of futures in India and then the 2007 season kicks off [] with the first week of ATPs and the New Caledonia challenger.

We wait to see if any Brits risk "delhi-belly" in India...I've tried to persuade Slabba, not sure if he's entered, I'll try and ask him this week. Maybe some of the juniors might go there like last year when the LTA arranged a mini-tour with a coach. However, this year there are only 2 futures [compared to 3 in 2005] plus they'd have to miss Christmas with their families which could be a factor !!!
