I reckon that the title will be either won by Brewer or Burn. Burn is the favourite for me as he's beaten Brewer both times they've played including a 7-6, 6-2 win a few weeks ago.
Like Johnnylad, I reckon that Bains will be the surprise package here. He's a very tall guy with a good game for fast courts. Gave Freddy Nielsen a very close match last week in Shrewsbury. I reckon he could make the semis.
I reckon Thornley could come unstuck in the quarters against big-serving Ian Samuels who's done very well on the British tour this year. Samuels had a go on the pro tour last autumn but this year he's just been coaching and playing British tour.
No real surprises there. Ben Pritchard's a very flashy junior, has some big shots but is very hit and miss. Bains is more consistent and has a better serve so I thought he'd win that one.
Rd2:
Brewer [1] v Brassington
Dewhurst v Taylor [8]
Greenland [3] v Southwood
Bains v Barratclough [6]
Samuels [5] v Oppe
Crisp v Thornley [4]
Skinner [7] v Jewitt
Fitzpatrick v Burn [2]
Will be interesting to see how Thomas Greenland does, given that only a few days ago he was in Tunisia playing futures qualies !!! The most interesting matches for me are Barratclough v Bains and Crisp v Thornley. I back Bains and Thornley to get through; Bains has the tougher task.
I'm amazed at how well Greenland has done this week...on Saturday he was in Tunisia losing in the first qualifying round and then a few days later he's back in Britain, getting through to the final here.
Really surprising results from this tournament, I was amazed to see Brewer and Burn go out so early, I was sure they'd be in the final.
Some more info on Kyle Brassington: He's unranked, 2.2 LTA rating and from Yorkshire. His best results in futures this year have been making the final qualies round in Bath before losing to Matt Illingworth and he qualified in Nottingham, beating Richard Irwin in straight sets before getting double-bagelled by Martin Lee in rd1. He played Brewer in qualies for Sunderland a couple of weeks ago, lost 7-6[10], 6-3. In British tour, he's made 1 final, 1 semi and 1 quarter-final this year.
Bains did great to beat Barratclough, not surprised that Greenland proved a bit too tough in the quarters. Greenland is rated 1.1, he hasn't played many British tours this year but has done consistently well in the ones he has played - he's won two, made 1 semi and 2 quarters.
Thornley has done great to make the final, I think Greenland will win it though.
I wonder if Andrew Fitzpatrick is related to Anna ?
