That'd be good: it's been a bit disheartening for the last couple of weeks.....
....And it starts off with Alex's six points from Helsinki last year falling off, so that he drops back behind Lu, Kubot and Economidis, who had queued up just behind him last week.
Fortunately, Dick Norman was defending 90 points from his win in dnepropetrovsk last year, and Boris Pashanski was defending 70 points from his win in Aracaju. Both fall behind Alex and so he starts the week off dropping just one place to 121st.
Falla and Marach also fall, dropping down into the table from above; Berlocq falls behind Alex.
The first threats to look out for are Hartfield, Fraile, Carlsen, de Voest, Bozoljac and Berlocq. None can overtake in the first round
Don't fancy Alex's chances of making Aus Open main draw now. Last year cut was at 116 after withdrawals and even if he wins next week and defends his title he won't be better than that and another early exit will put him around 135..will he try to qualify this year?
Even though Alex won't be able to play AO as a direct entrant unless he gets really lucky, he will be able to ensure a top 8 seeding in the qualies with a title in Shrewsbury and a round or two in Madras.
But will he go to Australia and play qualies?
And he will need to do win the title in Shrewsbury to have a good chance of entering Madras directly.
yeah boggo's really gonna struggle to maintain his ranking in the top 150 unless he gets somewhere next week and the beginning of next year.
i hope he goes for chennai and aussie open - he really has to start testing himself at this level if he has top 100 aspirations (which he's showed he has the game for, if not quite the fortitude perhaps). Out of the players ranked around him, i imagine most have played more atp tournies then boggo over the past year (tho the grass WC's inc his tally a fair bit)
Though i do appreciate its hard in atp tournies - to get decent points, you generally have to beat a top 50 player in either 1st or 2nd round, making the qfs. hopefully tho he can qualify for aussie open then get a clay courter or an aussie wc in 1st round, and a handy 50 points! thinking a bit ahead though, and it remains to be seen how his game will hold up on outdoor hard courts.

It'd be good if they went out in the first round anyway though!
My fault: We had a false sense of security. I'd miscalculated for Hartfield who won in Ascuncion, and draws level with Alex on points, but edges ahead because he qualified for Roland Garros, which beats Alex's Wimbledon wildcard.
Alex down 1 to 122
Other results: Fraile lost in Ascuncion , Vicente in Guyaquil
Kendrick won in Champaign, and continues his rise up the table Lu & Berlocq also won.
Next up in Dnepropetrovsk: Waske takes on Zovko, Economidis takes on Koubek, Kubottakes on Cakl.
In Helsinki, Galvani plays Carraz, then tonight we see Pashanski take on Massa in Ascuncion, and Bozoljac play Van Der Merwe and Delic play Mamiit in Champaign.
Pashanski is the number 1 threat, overtaking if he makes the semis. Bozoljac needs to reach the final.
alex has said he will be heading to austrailia, i assume that means he wil be looking to qualify for the atp and ao events as i think he knows that realsitcily he wont be a DE any more.

It's a shame, but he's obviously been trying to improve his game and test himself against the best rather than just concentrate on ranking points. He's been going for the big 100K - plus challengers, rather than picking off 20 points here and there in the weak fields in the 50K ones.
So I'm guessing the ranking and the AO place were less important than the chance to test himself against top 100 players. And he's certainly tested himself against Sluiter!
yeah, to be honest i dont think alex (and us) should be too down after the loss vs sluiter, he is a comfortable top 100 player and thats what most of us expect of alex anyway, and obviously the more the play, esp in such a short space of time the more they will get used to each other game.
with regards to the other events Alex has always stuggled in the hot climates, really throughout his profesional career (i remeber 1 year he pulled out of an indian satleite or something) so honestly dotn expect too much of him from the AO and similar events.
Possibly on refelction alex should have gone for the 2 easier challengers but maybe his head was swayed after doing so well at mons (not sure whne the deadlines were), and i am sure he wouldnt have expected to go out in the 1st round at nottingham.
