ITF Thailand Open 2006 - G2.

Daniel Cox and Josh Milton play here and have first round byes. Akhazzan was the top seed in qualies but failed in the first match that he played after a first round bye.

I got this off Jiro's page.

1-JONES Greg AUS vs BYE
WC-KORKIATTHAWORN Warut THA vs Q-NARAYANASWAMY Sriram Balaji IND
ISSARA Khunpol THA vs CHEN Aleksandr UZB
16-DANDAN Kyle Joshua PHI vs BYE
9-ZHOU Zhuo-qing CHN vs BYE
VIJAYRAGAVAN Ashwin IND vs Q-WAITE Richard GER
WC-PAKPOOMKAMOL Phaninthon THA vs BALAKRISHNAN Kris AUS
7-OH Dae-Soung KOR vs BYE

3-CHO Soong-Jae KOR vs BYE
Q-PAKPOOMKAMOL Apidech THA vs DENG Hong-bo CHN
Q-PETER Agnel Gladwin IND vs HARAHAP Bani Kohar INA
14-LONGHI Tadayuka JPN vs BYE
11-MILTON Joshua GBR vs BYE
Q-SEO Jeong-Han KOR vs GOULD Sam NZL
MCNAMEE William AUS vs REDDY B. Vikram IND
6-SIRILUETHAIWATTANA Perakiat THA vs BYE

5-LIM Yong-Kyu KOR vs BYE
WC-LIMPIMPROPH Pitchaya THA vs MATSUO Yuki JPN
JAIN Arnav IND vs LL
12-SIRIBUTWONG Peerakit THA vs BYE
15-KOSLER Jiri CZE vs BYE
JIANG Chuan CHN vs LL
WC-UAYPORN Sorachet THA v s DANIELL Marcus NZL
4-DONALD Stephen AUS vs BYE

8-COX Daniel GBR vs BYE
SHARMA Kinshuk IND vs LL
WC-WACHIRAMANOWONG Kittiphong THA vs EASTON Jared AUS
10-LIM Hyun Soo KOR vs BYE
13-WU Chen-yu CHN vs BYE
WC-CHUMPET Pattrayu THA vs LL
Q-SCHNOR Patrik DEN vs VERRYTH Mark AUS
2-RUNGKAT Christopher INA vs BYE

Looking at that field, Daniel has defeated players better than everyone out there. You mustn't expect a 16 year old to play high quality tennis every single day, but he can do really well here.

Rungkat is an old foe. He absolutely hammered an inexperienced Cox when they played on clay earlier this year in Morocco. But Rungkat is a clay courter and this is on hard, so Daniel will fancy his chances against him.

Daniel will need to reach the semis to affect his points total, where as Josh will need to reach the quarters.

Their last two doubles campaigns were absolute disasters, so Dan could even play doubles with Faris or someone from another country.

Dan and Josh are playing doubles again, they're the 6th seeds.

Faris is playing with Thai Pitchaya LIMPIMPROPH, who must be an umpire's worst nightmare all over the junior circuit. Having said that, most of the Thai players have such long and unpronouceable names eg: Kittipong WACHIRAMANOWONG

Singles:

Dan plays Indian Kinshuk Sharma in rd2. In rd1, Sharma beat American lucky loser Ryan Cheung 7-6, 6-2. Sharma is 17 and ranked 260. The highlights of his semis have been making semis in a G3 and a G4 in Asia. Will Greenleaf's loyalties been torn for this one ?

Josh plays New Zealander Sam Gould in rd2. Gould beat a Korean qualifier 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in rd1. He's 17 and ranked 305. The highlights of his year have been making the quarters of a G4 in Australia, quarters of a G4 on Portugese clay and semis of a G4 in New Zealand.

If you think that's bad, how about when Kittipong Wachiramanowong and his partner Peerakit Siributwong play doubles against Peraklat Siriluethaiwattana and Sornsakol Supakit? (both real doubles partnerships, though they haven't played each other in ranked tournaments yet.

Well the top seed Alun Jones (AUS) is ranked 44 in the juniors, while the second seed is ranked in the 60s, so its not out of Cox's league in terms of where he wants to be ranked in the juniors. The comment i was trying to make was on Cox's stamina, im surprised he's still in the draw even though he must be suffering from fatigue at a young age since he won in Taiwan.

Events go from G1 - G5 so a grade 2 event is pretty high. G1s tend to be mostly top 100 players.

Dan's best performance so far was in a grade 1 in Roehampton in June on grass where he made the quarters.

That was a superb rd2 win for Dan. i doubt he'll be struggling physically as he only dropped 1 set in Taiwan and won several matches with total ease. I think it's more than the 17 year old Korean was a very tricky opponent, he's ranked 156 in juniors and has qualified for several futures.

Josh's opponent was even trickier, ranked 103 and the Thai made the quarters of the GA - Osaka Mayor Cup in Japan a few weeks ago. He also has a world ranking point.

Dan has an extremely tough match in the quarters, he plays 2nd seeded Indonesian Chris Runkat who's ranked 66 in juniors and has had 2 ranking points. He's just 16 and is a clay-court specialist. This year he's made a grade 2 final and won two grade 3s, beating Dan 6-2, 6-0 in Latvia in June.

Just checked on Jiro's site: Dan beat Runkat 6-4, 6-0

What a win, Runkat is 66 in juniors, and surely one of the best 16 year olds in the world !!!

In the semis, he faces a Thai who delights in the name of Perakiat Siributwong. He's the 12th seed and is ranked 176 in juniors. He beat the 5th seed [ranked 99] 6-2, 7-5 in rd3.

He's got 2 world ranking points and also won a G4 in Thailand in July.

Wow! Revenge is sweet.

Rungkat actually thrashed Dan in Morocco and not Latvia.

WOW! Great win for Cox! if he wins the semis, does that mean he could enter the top 100?
