The news is good this week for Andy. We return to normal ATP tournaments and so the number of points on offer is not so great, add to that the fact that everyone must improve their 18th score before gaining points and it turns out only two people can overtake Andy this week if he loses in the first round. They are Tursunov (who would need to win in St P's) and Gaudio (who would need to reach the quarters of Lyon).
So pins into those two but pay closest attention to Del Potro for the moment, as Madeline has already said!
Looking ahead...
If Andy wins first round he will reclaim supremacy over Hewitt (and the natural order of things will be resumed ).
If he wins second round Nieminen will fall behind providing he (that's Nieminen) loses before the semis.
If he wins his quarter final, no change will be made.
If he wins his semi, Djokovic will be overtaken.
If he wins the tournament, Ferrer will have the same number of points as him and i believe he would go ahead by having more mandatory points but I'm not 100% on that and am too tired to research it right now!
So worst case, a drop of two more to end the week at 21.
Best case, a rise of 4 to finish at 15th.

Not much action yesterday: Nieminem and Soderling both won, but don't improve their points totals.
Number one threat Gaudio plays Greul in Lyon today, as does Gasquet behind him and Baghdatis ahead. Target number 4, Ferrer, plays in Basel. Ancic plays in St Petersburg.
Hopefully he gets better in time for the Paris Masters and can do well there, otherwise I fear he may not end the year in the top 20 and that would be grossly unfair.
Oh well, all pins into Tursunov. I like him though so maybe we can allow him to win a couple of rounds before losing.
