Breakfast of Champions

vinegar shot, orange juice, cappuccino, water, waffles with raspberry syrup, passion fruit and corn flakes with milk

according to federer, maybe worth a go one day, but it seems like quite a lot for breakfast. i think he must need to go for a wee after all that liquid.

What's the alternative meaning of vinegar shot ?

I think Fed actually meant drinking vinegar, he said that the Japanese do it a lot and it's actually very refreshing. Personally, that breakfast sounds fab but I'd go without the vinegar !!! The thought of drinking a glass of it is a bit yuck.

It does amaze me how many of the pros love sushi, has anyone here had it ?

yeah sushi is really nice, its a bit expensive in england but in japan its not. i went to tokyo a few years ago, really great city, also went to one of those restaurtants where you cook the food your self, they had little barbecue style grills built into the tables and bring pieces fo raw meat and veg so you can cook to your taste which is novel.

i wont put the alternative meaning onto a fmaily messager board.

I thought sushi was just raw fish, is it raw meat aswell ?

What does it taste like when it's raw, do you get all the blood in the meat ? Is it a bit like getting some meat from Tescos and then defrosting it and eating it without cooking it or do they do other things to it ?

Tokyo is apparently the most densely populated city on the earth, Fed said he was surprised at that, he said it didn't feel that crowded.

mostly raw fish, the raw meat stuff isnt sushi as far ass i know, japanese do eat lots of other things, also when i was over ther i hardly ate any rice which may come as a surpise. when i think of sushi it tends to mean bits of salmon/prawn or tuna either resting on sticky rice or wrapped in it. The salmon and prawn taste ok, the tuna is a bit iffy to start, but you get used to it.

its a busy city, cetain areas are rammed, and in differcne to uk their mani shopping day is sunday, but they have excellent transpiort systems, for them a trin on time mean seconds and over 1 minuite late is bad, not uk where they slow the trains down so they can spped up in case they are running late and only define 'late' as if its after 10 mins late.

also they love western forginers, you will, i found out you be assumed to be amercian and have to speak 'amercian' to be understood i.e cinema's a no no, movie theater is good. when they find out you are english they want to know if you know beckham :) they also ask very personal questions about you but its sort of the done thing over there.

If Fed's been doing "vinegar shots" on the mornings of his matches, no wonder he's not been playing very well. That would explain why he's been a little lethargic so far !

Is it mainly sushi restaurants over there or do they have lots of fast food outlets aswell ?

I read that tuna sushi is very popular among the players, having never had it, the prawn sounds like the best kind to start off with to get used to it.

Japan have the fastest trains in the world, they can travel at something like 350 mph which is faster than any other train on earth. It was actually a British invention but it's not really necessary over here and we couldn't afford it but the Japs took it up. With the population density over there, it's financially viable to run such trains and also, I think the Japs use public transport a lot more than over here.

Lol, they're obsessed with Beckham over there. You should have said that he was an acquaintance of yours, Count, you'd have been treated like royalty !

i mainly stayed in tokyo (never went on one of those flying magnetic trains) and the train/tube system is combined, its very confusing and to be honest i couldnt have made my way around by my self, but bascily when you enter the gates, similar to the tube ones in london, excpet you can just gently push through if you wanted )no one does this as it would be very embarrsing to be seen to not be prepared to pay), you have to go through specific gates for specifc places etc. But anyway they run several differnt types of train/tube some fast ones only stop at the major stops whilst some stop eveywhere which is a good system. i never saw any of the famed shoving onto the tubes but i never travalled in rush hour.

also on the buses you pay your fare and put in the money for how far you wish to go, no checks on it, would never work over here but over there no one (or probably very few) would think about cheating it.

tye dont have 'pubs' but socilase in restaurants wher you can talk to the table next to you kinda thing, there anrt that many fast food bars, and i didnt go in any karoke bars.

there are other areas though, a place called 'ripongi' (dont know the speeling) where a lot of american squaddies go which is probably not so nice and i skipped it.

a lot of people cycle to the stations and bike theft is a very serious crime, they also have intersting parking solutions in cluoing bays where concrete slabks rise under the car preventing it from being knicked.

anyway thats more than enough from me for now on japan.
