Greg gains a place to 141 as the week begins. Boggo's at 146. Moodie drops a massive 72 points to sit behind Boggo as his Tokyo win from last year drops off.  Lu qualifies for Tokyo, and overtakes alex, cancelling this out.

Llodra, Carlsen, Philipousis, Kubot, Berrer and Vinciguerra also lose places, meanwhile Montcourt, Marin and Hehnel drop off the table.

Edit: Llodra's victory in Grenoble, and Lu's qualification for Tokyo happened late on Sunday. Until they happened, both Greg & Alex had advanced 2: Llodra was behind them both and Lu was behind Boggo. I've changed this post accordingly.

Alex just needs to win his first round match to become Britain's new Number 3.

If Alex Wins in Mons, he could climb to WR 108, however there are plenty of other players who if they get just a few points would knock him out of the top 110.

If he reaches the Final,  he could climb to 119, but again would probably end up somewhere in the top 130.

If he reaches the Semis, he could climb to 127, and is unlikely to be pushed out of the top 130.

If he reaches the Quarters, he could climb to 132, and is unlikely to be pushed much lower.

If he goes out in Round 2,  he would climb to 140, and then probably be knocked back 3 or 4 places.

If he loses in the first round, there are a number who can overtake easily: Moodie, Lu and Wang would overtake with a win in R1 in Tokyo.

Pins into these three and Zib,  who Alex would overtake if he won R1.

Edit: changed to reflect Llodra and Navarro Pastor's improved positions after Sunday's matches.

Wang starts the week badly with a win in Tokyo. Greg & Alex both get knocked down a place.

Michael Berrer's up soon in Japan. He'll overtake Boggo if he wins. Zib plays tonight in Mons.

Hopefully Schuettler will win against Berrer. The last time they played, Berrer won in 3. Berrer will be coming from Mumbai so it'll be quite a change in surface. Unfortunately Schuettler's not in particularly good form, losing in Bangkok rd2 to Zverev last week while Berrer took a set off Robredo in Mumbai rd2.

Moodie's got a bye through to rd2 in Tokyo, he's seeded there, how has he dropped so low ? He was in the 70s last week ?

Who's Lu playing in rd1 of Tokyo ?

Zib should get knocked out tonight, he's playing 7th seeded Belgian giant Dick Norman who's virtually impossible to break indoors when he's in a rhythm on serve. He's also playing in front of his home crowd, one of the rare occasions he gets to do so, he'll be pumped up for that match

Moodie is defending 250 points - he won Tokyo last year, believe it or not, and that makes up almost half of all his ranking points.

Lu's a qualifier, so he'll be up against Udomchoke, Waske, Vicente, Iwabuchi, Delgardo or another qualifier.

Edit: Looks like the draw's been made: Lu's up against Delgardo in tomorrow's OOP. The Berrer match was postponed until then as well.

Wow, Moodie must have played well that week, who did he beat to win it ?

Hmmm, Lu-Delgado is a match which could probably go either way. Delgado beat Del Potro last week, but Del Potro was struggling with a stomach upset

It must have been the form of his life: He beat:

R1: Wang
R2: (6)Youzhny
R3: (11)Horna
QF: (2)Stepanek
SF: (7)Niemenen
F:   (5)Ancic

- so seeds all the way!

(To clarify: Lu overtook Alex by qualifying. He overtakes Greg if he wins his 1st round match)

Gosh, that's an impressive list of players, shows what Moodie can do when he's on form and his serve is firing. He must have been red-hot that week.

If Alex loses to Falla, is he likely to slide several places ? Are the players ranked immediately above him, defending many points this week ?

The table's updated for Monday's matches

Wang overtakes Both Greg & Alex . Novak and Carlsen also advance.

Zib  goes out behind Greg, as do  Luczak and El Ayanoui  behind Boggo (in Qualifying in Metz).

The Threats today are Berrer to Alex & Greg, and Lu to Greg.

......And Berrer  goes out to Schuettler in Tokyo today.

(Unfortunately, Lu won his match and overtakes Greg)

So only Moodie  is an immediate threat to Alex & Greg if Alex goes out in R1.

He's already slid one, with Lu overtaking, and can go down another if Moodie wins. However, there's no- one else on the table below him still playing this week (they all have "out" in the "So Far" column), so the only threats are from players in the 160s & 170s, who need to do really well to overtake (>60 points).

As for the players immediately above him, the points defended have alrady been taken into account on the table (that's why Moodie's suddenly appeared here, and Philippousis). You'll see that there's a lot of players within 20 points of Alex (QF in Mons), and that most are not in action this week - just Lu, Wang, Hartfield & Llodra.

Alex is the new British number Three!, jumping from 147th to 142nd.  Greg drops to 144.

So if Alex can find a way past Sluiter he'll move up into the low 130s which would be excellent

Have we got to hope that Lu, Moodie and Wang all lose in rd2 ?

- and Llodra loses his R1 in Mons, and Harfield doesn't make the quarters in Quito

If he does beat Sluiter, though, the worst case is still a climb to 137th. Best case is 131st.
