Last year the final here was contested between Anne Keothavong and Karen Paterson, Anne won a very tight match 1-6, 7-6, 6-4. Hopefully there'll be a similarly all-British final this year.
This year, I reckon that Naomi is the heavy favourite, the courts will suit her down to the ground. Of her rivals here, Jane can compete with her in terms of power but I don't think she has the consistency to trouble Naomi over 3 sets, Karen will probably be her biggest threat being on-form and a very big hitter.
I hope Emily Webley-Smith does well, after losing 6 months of her season to injury, she's been having some very good results over the past month.
It'll be very interesting to see how Yasmin Clarke and Olivia Scarfi do

Good to see 15 year old Yasmin Clarke qualifying and also a great win for unranked 16 year old wildcard Amanda Carreras over 2nd seed Melissa Gibb who's ranked 901. Incidentally Amanda was born in Gibraltar.
Great win for Naomi Cavaday, showing impressive form there ! Can't see either Elizabeth Thomas or Claire Ricketts causing her many problems in rd2 so it looks like there's like to be a quarter-final between Naomi and Georgie Stoop which would be an interesting match.
Could also be a very interesting rd2 match between Claire Peterzan and Emily Webley-Smith if Emily beats qualifier Natasha Hillyer in rd1 this morning.
Anna Smith has a chance of an upset in rd1 against 7th seeded Frenchwoman Nadege Vergos. Vergos has spent the year trying to qualify for challengers - 25Ks, 50ks and 75ks but the only time she's won a main draw match was right at the start of the year when she reached the quarters of a 25K in Belfort, she also made the semis of a 10k.
One of our top juniors, Julia Bone faces 22 year old GBTG favourite Rebecca Fong in rd1. Fong's had a consistent year, reaching 4 quarter-finals and in August she gave Jane O'Donaghue a tough match. I think she may have a bit too much experience for Julia who's blown hot and cold this year.
Yasmin Clarke has a good 1st round draw, up against Germany's Laura Haberkorn who's 19 and is ranked 823. Haberkorn has had a poor year, she hasn't been past rd2 of a 10K so Yasmin should have a good chance of victory.
