Anne Keothavong has made the main draw for the WTA tournament, the first time she's made a WTA draw on her own ranking Given that there are a large number of European 25Ks this week plus a tier 4 in Slovenia which she would have got into easily, going for this tournament which has much bigger points on offer, shows real ambition.
The entry list looks imposing at the top with Hingis, Mirza and Sprem but after that I reckon Anne could beat a lot of those players with maybe the exception of Razzano and Serra Zanetti. Hopefully she gets a good draw
That's a real shame, how's your revision going ? Maybe you could just take an afternoon off to see her first round match ? How far is Kolkata from Calcutta ?

I couldn't study anything for the last four days because I was sick, so I can't go and see her.
'Kolkata' is the new official name for 'Calcutta'. I prefer Calcutta.

the one that annoys me the is Chennai and Madras! They dont even sound remotely similar! At least with others like Kochi and Chochin, Khambat and cambay and the ones you have mentioned you can kind of tell!

(7) Nicole Pratt AUS v WC Sunitha Rao USA Arantxa Parra Santonja ESP v Olga Poutchkova RUS Qualifier v Angelique Widjaja INA Alberta Brianti ITA v (3) Yuliana Fedak UKR
(8) Anastassia Rodionova RUS v Alla Kudryavtseva RUS Hana Sromova CZE v WC Shikha Uberoi IND Qualifier v Qualifier Casey Dellacqua AUS v (2) Karolina Sprem CRO
Poutchek is a really good draw for Anne considering some of the other names she could have faced in rd1 !! The 27 year old from Belarus is ranked 113 and though she's been as high as no 55, that was way back in 2002. They've played once before, in rd1 of a WTA qualifying event on the Gold Coast at the start of this year, Poutchek won 6-4, 6-2.
Poutchek has qualified for 4 WTA tournaments this year, her best performance was down under in Canberra where she reached rd2. She qualified for the US Open but lost in rd1 to Julia Fedak, the world no 64 from the Ukraine. Poutchek best result on the challenger circuit came in August when she reached the final of the Bronx 50k challenger.
Aswell as Keothavong she's played 2 other Brits this year, beating Sarah Borwell 6-2, 6-3 in Eastbourne but losing in a 3rd set tiebreak to Naomi Cavaday at Birmingham.
Keothavong v Poutchek is 2nd on centre court tomorrow so Greenleaf should be able to see her in action. Please give us a match report if you do watch it. The match will start at around 2.30pm Indian time, what's that in GMT.
Anne is also in action in doubles partnering Brianti of Italy. They face Poutchek and Kudryavtseva in rd1.
It looks like Anne will be able to play a whole string of WTAs this autumn. She's currently 4th on the qualifying draw for the Guangzhou main draw next week and then she should also stand a good chance of getting in Tashkent and then Bangkok.

Yep, it's really tragic. And it's almost like they are trying to rub off the history of a city.
Well at the moment play appears to have been delayed by rain, and the Tanasugarn match before Anne is in the early stages of set 2 when they resume. So, there might be a chance of you seeing her.
