Alex just scraps into this high challenger, holding onto that ranking just inside the top 150 has really helped him, as he just made it into both poland 125k and this one as well. Cant see anyone else in the challengers this week.

Apart from the Rochus brothers and Lopez, I can't see anyone else in that entry list who Alex couldn't beat indoors if playing well. If he was on top form and the A game was working, I reckon he'd have a chance of beating Christophe.
I'd be very surprised if Martin Lee, Bloomfield, Goodall, Parmar [and perhaps Baker and Mackin] didn't go for qualifying here.
he may not be fully fit yet and has decided to take the time off rather than play on the harsh clay and risk making anything worse. as far as i am aware he will be going to india for the atp mumbai, presumably to qualfiy and that may have effected his decisions. i cant believe he is too bad or he would ahve pulled out v stoppini.

Playing the Poland challenger would have presented considerable scheduling problems for Alex as Mumbai qualifying starts on Saturday. If Alex got to the quarters or further he'd have had to withdraw from Mumbai. Having withdrawn from Szczecin means that he'll be able to head to India early this week and spend several days there acclimatising and getting used to the courts which will maximise his chances of doing well.
The qualifying draw for Mons will be made tonight, will be available probably about 10pm GMT on the ATP site.
The interesting thing this weekend will be which players go for Mons qualies and which [if any] go for ATP Metz qualies.
The players who are likely to be attempting qualifying this weekend are:
Martin Lee, Josh Goodall [he's not entered any tournaments for the next few weeks so it looks like he's going to be going for some challenger/ATP qualies], Arvind Parmar [though Arvind surprisingly didn't enter Grenoble qualies last week some maybe he's injured], Alan Mackin [I have a feeling that Alan might go for Metz, he usually enters at least one indoor ATP] and Lee Childs.
Richard Bloomfield isn't playing qualies as he's heading home for a week's break
It's very weird that not one of them actually entered, maybe they tried to and something happened like a plane delay and they were all travelling together and missed the cut.
