Australia F8 - 15K

Rd1:

M Blake [GB] v R Steckley [Can][8]

A Kennaugh [GB] v D To [Aus]

C Eaton [GB] v R Smeets [Aus][2]

Unfortunately, it looks like only Andy Kennaugh has any chance of progressing to rd2 Myles' opponent is ranked 663, reaching a high of 527 in 2005. Steckley is one of the on-form players this week, having just won Australia F7 without dropping a set.

Rob Smeets is a hard-hitting leftie, ranked 365. Last October, he reached a career high ranking of 233. He made the semis of Australia F7 last week. Alex Slabinsky played him earlier this year in Australia and beat him 6-2, 6-1. Smeets was very erratic that day as he can be at times and Alex thrashed pass after pass past him at the net.

Andy Kennaugh has the best draw but To will be a difficult opponent. He's currently only ranked 1048 but he's been ranked 705 and he always produces his best tennis in Australia. Last week he reached the quarters of Australia F7 before losing to the eventual finalist.

Chris and Andy are in the doubles, they play the 4th seeds in rd1. Myles Blake partners Aussie Todd Ley and they place wildcards in rd1.

That's a pretty dire result I thought it would be a tough one given Tu's consistently good results down under but I expected it to be a bit closer than that !

Unfortunately all the Brits are now out of the singles, it's not been a good week in the futures from a British perspective:

Rd1: R Steckley [Can][8] bt M Blake [GB] 6-3, 6-3

R Smeets [Aus][2] bt C Eaton [GB] 7-6[5], 6-2

Better news in the doubles though....

Both Brit teams won through rd1: Eaton/Kennaugh beat the 4th seeds 7-6[4], 6-4 and Blake/Ley beat the wildcards 6-0, 6-0.

Blake and Ley then won through to the semis with a 1-6, 6-3, 10-3 win over Eaton and Kennaugh. They now play the top seeds, Alun Jones and Rob Smeets.
