Mackin beat Varga 4 & 1

He'll play (Q) Yoran Verschoor (NED), the winner of a R1 match between unranked qualifiers, in R2 on Wednesday.

Alan is really comiting to getting points out of the futures circuit after a bad run at challenger level. It looks like he has a good draw, as you would expect for the 2nd seed.

That's a pretty poor result for Alan. Parada has only been as high as 371 in the world but he's a clay-court specialist and beat Andy Murray in 2005. However, he's only had limited success in futures this year reaching 1 semi and several quarters so I would have thought the match would be a lot closer than 3 and 2.

Alan must be quite disappointed as he's been one of the top seeds for the last couple of weeks and would have expected to have done a lot better than two quarter-finals.

He's earned 4 points from the last two weeks and so assuming that he has no points to defend his ranking will rise from 369 to approx 359.

Alan has officially withdrawn from Donetsk challenger. Pity. He had easily made the main draw by ranking. Cut was 1262 in the end.

I hope Alan's not injured

If he is, that would explain his surprise loss on Friday.
