A fantastic week for Karen as she took her first 10K title
In the quarters she beat 5th seed Kildine Chevalier [Fr] 6-2, 6-3 and in the semis she beat the 6th seed Sara Del Barrio-Aragon [Esp] 6-2, 6-3. She took the title by defeating Jane O'Donaghue's conqueror Yera Campos-Molina [Esp] fighting back after a tricky 1st set to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
A great set of results for Karen dropping just 1 set all week, the quarter-final and semi wins were particularly impressive scorelines Hope she can continue this form and take it into the GB indoor season.
This win will take her up from 405 to a career high ranking of 362
Speaking afterwards to the LTA Karen was delighted to have won her first title: “Since coming back from injury in May after tearing my stomach muscle I just haven’t seemed to find my form consistently, but I knew some wins would build my confidence again.
“My plans are to compete in the forthcoming $10k and the $25k at Nottingham and then the $25ks in Jersey and Glasgow where hopefully I’ll build on my win.”
Karen teamed up with Jane O’Donoghue to reach the final of the doubles, but lost to Swedes Michaela Johansson and Nadja Roma 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
In Istanbul Emily got off to a good start in her quarter-final match against Turkish 7th seed Cagla Buyukakcay, winning the 1st set 6-2 but the Turk came back in sets 2 and 3 to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
However, there was consolation for Emily as she and Germany's Ria Doernemann teamed up to win the doubles title.
