Sarah Borwell declares war on GBtennisgirls

An unwell Sarah Borwell was not remotely happy about some of the comments on GBtennisgirls after the disappointing results for the british women in qualifying for the US Open, making clear her feelings on both her Lusciousmontenegro blog and in a post on the GBtennisgirls messageboard.

I have to say that sportsmen and women should never read the press, or indeed sports forums on the internet as the comments are bound to be over the top.

I certainly hope they never read MTF or the BBC (and presumably WTAWorld, though I have no personal experience of that)

I think Sarah overeacted as the post-match posts on GBTG were all basically expressing understandable disappointment at her losing such a close match and none of us knew the information that she was ill, no one was really slamming her like on WTAworld and the Beeb.

I suppose she must have still been extremely gutted about the result when she posted that and that's probably why she did overeact.

Still, it was nice to read some inside information surrounding the Brits at the USO, it's great to hear that Sarah feels so confident of achieving her goal of getting inside the top 100.

it always difficult as a tennis fan to know whats really going on, all we often get to see is the score line and thats it, and make judgememts accordingly and unless you have any inside info we cant know if someone ill, carrying an injury or may well have other things going on, eg bereavemnet etc. As a player they should be wary looking at any forums and must realise that the people that post often dont know much and often have an emotional attchament to the results, strange as it seems. It would be better if more players posted perhaps so we had a better idea of whats going on, but of cousre they are probably very busy. .

I agree, it's especially tricky at the lower levels when all you know is the ranking and previous results stats and the scoreline. There have been several angry posts in the past on BTZ from coaches and close relatives of players [I'm guessing here as unlike Sarah, they didn't give their names]. For example, a year ago Lee Childs lost in straights to a player ranked about 1300. Everyone on BTZ naturally said, dreadful result but then the coach/relative signed up gave the posters a slating and pointed out that Lee's opponent was one of South Korea's best young tennis prospects and has a lot of sponsorship backing over there.

I think most players who read forums do tend to realise that they mustn't take too much notice of what's being said, especially with forums like MTF and the Beeb. I think I heard that Boggo has read those [might be wrong] and he takes one hell of a bashing over there.

I know that quite a few of the players read this site but for some [eg Alex Slabinsky] it's not on a regular basis as not all can afford to travel with their laptops.
