Alex has the chance to gain revenge tonight for his two DC defeats against Okun. The Israeli is ranked over 100 places below Alex at 257 but he's been in the top 200 [world no 95 in 2002] and that experience has shown both times they've played.
The 1st match was on the hard courts of Tel Aviv in March 2005, Okun winning 7-6, 6-2, 6-2 though Boggo led 5-2 and had 2 set points in set 1. Last month, Boggo was hampered by a hip injury during a 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 defeat on grass.
Okun had a poor year up until the DC match but his two wins in Eastbourne seems to have galvanised him and he's hit form on the North American hard courts, reaching the semis of Granby and Vancouver and last week he reached rd2 of Binghamton before losing to Phillippousis.
The big uncertainty in this match is going to be Boggo's fitness. He was still troubled by his injury when he left for Graz and whether it's still bothering him remains to be seen.
Alex has had plenty of success in the past in New York, he reached the junior semis in 2001, his breakthrough year and in 2004 he qualified for the main draw.
If he's fully fit, I'm predicting him to win in 3.
I'm going out in 5min to play a tennis tournament match so will miss the Boggo match but will have my fingers crossed. Please post score updates so I can follow it when i get back.
