ATP Los Angeles

For those of you wondering where Jamie Murray had got to this week, well he's in Los Angeles for the ATP event.

Unfortunately Jamie's singles ranking was too low for him to make the cut for the qualifying draw but he's in the doubles main draw partnering American Eric Butorac. Butorac is a 24 year old leftie ranked outside the top 1100 in singles but he's ranked 107 in doubles.
He's never played with Muhay before, his regular partner is Chris Drake. Drake and Butorac played against Murray and Alun Jones in a challenger in May, winning 7-6, 6-2.

ATP Los Angeles rd1:

J Murray/E Butorac v T Parrott/J Thomas [USA] [2]

Sadly they've drawn the 2nd seeds in rd1, Parrott is ranked 57 in doubles and Thomas is ranked 36. Thomas has won a couple of ATP events this year plus the Surbiton Challenger.

The match is last on stadium court today. There will be live scoring.

J Murray/E Butorac break again to secure a very impressive 6-2 6-3 victory against the number 2 seeds!

Another impressive point is that they won without facing a single breakpoint!

Well done J Murray & E Butorac

I think that is Jamie's first victory on the ATP Tour.

Sorry I was using a rubbish scoreboard. It doesn't matter now though as they all agree that the match was won 6-2 6-3

Wow, what a win

Chicken wings on fire ! That is some victory as Thomas and Parrott are an experienced and world-class pairing.

As Niall said, this is Jamie's first ATP tour victory.

Jamie's Britain's no 3 doubles player at no 182 behind Auckland and Josh Goodall. I don't know the points awarded for winning ATP doubles matches [anyone know where to find out ?] but I'd assume that this win will take him into the 170s.

After this win, Jenkins and Simmonds shouldn't cause too many problems. Jenkins is ranked 217 in doubles and something similar in singles, Simmonds is 237 in singles but only 639 in doubles. Simmonds has already lost to Jamie in doubles this year. Butorac and Murray have to be big favs, this match will be on Thursday

Fantastic result for Jamie !!!

Hope he can really advance over the next year and become a top 100 doubles player. If we could get the likes of Jamie, Colin and James Auckland all within the top 100 then it would be a big plus for DC ties !!!!!!!!!

Brilliantly the points are given at the bottom of the draw sheet. I love it when tournaments do that and I think they should all be forced to do it. The points are:

W 175, F 120, SF 75, QF 40, R1 1

Doubles Draw

So they get 39 extra points for a 1st round win, but only 35 extra points for a 2nd round win.
That's a bit odd.
