Spain F24

10k event

Antoni Gomez, Philip Barlow, Alex Hutchins, Oscar Podlewski, Robert Dee, (7) James Ward and John Rambotas all appear in qualifying this week.

Looking for another promising performance from Podlewski, a few wins for James Ward and maybe a couple of games from Robert Dee

Round 3 (final) Qualifying:

(7) James Ward bt Vitor Requiao (Bra) 6-0, 5-7, 6-4

James qualifies yet again for a main draw. Hopefully he'll soon get his ranking high enough so he can get these wins in the main draw instead of qualifying.

This was bound to happen sooner or later - the two Brits who have been stationed in southern europe for the past few weeks meet each other...

Main Draw Round 1:

(4) Morgan Phillips vs James Ward

Realistic is more how I would describe it ....

Just had a quick search on Steve G, and it's another Adam type scenario !! for the last 2 years he gets a free ranking point by virtue of a wildcard into the MD of the Mexico Challenger. Since then, he's racked up 25 or so straight losses , mostly 60, 6-1 variety.

How do I change my id to "UlimateDeefan" ??

I think Mr Dee and Adam are making a serious challenge for the world record for most consecutive losses, Adam isn't very far off at all and Dee is catching up fast.

Unlike Adam though, Dee is actually quite a decent player in his region.

Morgan made light work of beating James Ward today, shame they had to meet in round 1, looking at some of the other qualifier spots, if James had got one of those he would have had a good chance of earning a ranking point:

Rd1: M Phillips [GB][4] bt J Ward [GB] 6-3, 6-3

Looking at the draw Morgan's got a great chance of making the semis and in doing so, breaking the top 600. The 2nd seed is only ranked 429 so if Morgan hits form here, he's beatable.

Rd2: M Phillips [GB][4] v M Lopez-Jaen [Esp]

Lopez-Jaen is ranked 772, he beat a spaniard ranked 731 6-2, 6-1 in rd1 which was an impressive result. He's competed virtually entirely in Spain this year with his best result coming in Spain F13 where he qualified and then reached the final. He also made a couple of futures quarters in early June. Could be a tough one but I'm going for Morgan in 3 sets.

Just noticed, Morgan beat Lopez-Jean 7-6, 6-4 in rd1 of Spain F21 a couple of weeks ago.

The trouble is, Adam's dad hasn't bought him a ranking point this year, so now that he is out of the world rankings it's not so easy to get into tournaments

Well, he can still clock up the losses in futures qualies around the world

According to the updated draw at Tennis Europe:

Lopez-Jaen ESP d. 4 Phillips GBR 63 62
