GB F10 - Frinton

As expected the chances of a home win don't look great. Our only seed is Richard Irwin and that has got to be a first for him. Hopefully one of Irwin, Rushby and Kennaugh will come through that quarter and give us a semi-finalist.

As usual Daniel Cox has been given a wild card drawn a seed and will probably lose in three sets. I hope not but that is the way it goes with GB Futures.

David Rice has drawn Tim Bradshaw so one of our wildcards will pick up their first ranking point. I'm hoping for Rice as he is four years younger and therefore a better prospect.

Great result for Nick Cavaday against the 3rd seed.

This seems to be his first tournament for over a year, and only his third in 2 years- so a great achievement to get a world ranking again.

Robert Searle also gets his name back onto the world ranking list, and Tim Bradshaw appears for the first time after beating David Rice.

Would be nice to see someone taking the next step and winning a few rounds. Hopefully Andrew Kennaugh can play to form and progress deep.

As a footnote, the doubles first round has also been completed and out of the numerous Brits, only Kennaugh/Rushby the 2nd seeds and Peel/Thornley (with a walk over) survive.

I can't find much in the way of details on Nick Cavaday, but there is a picture of him here

Is it my imagination, or does he look a bit like Naomi?

Great result for unranked Rob Searle to beat top seed. Super result for Kennaugh too.

Kennaugh/Rushby also through to the semi finals of the doubles to play Maes/Charroin the 3rd seeds, so great week all round for both players.

If he is only 57Kg like it says he is, he'd be quite a lot smaller than his sister....

Fantastic result by Robert Searle!  If he can beat the no.1 seed, there is no reason why he cant win his next match as well.

Full Quarter Final Results:

(q) Robert Searle (Gbr) bt (7) Enrico Iannuzi (Ita) 4-6 7-5 6-4

Tom Rushby (Gbr) bt Andrew Kennaugh (Gbr) 6-3 3-6 7-5

(6) Daniel King-Turner (Nzl) bt Shane La Porte (USA) 6-4 6-2

(2) Riccardo Ghedin (Ita) bt (5) Julien Maes (Fra) 6-1 6-1

Another great result for Searle and at least 6 world ranking points for both himself and Rushby. And they play each other in the semis so we are guaranteed a finalist - very much a long shot at the start of the week.
