The singles draws have been published and there are some pretty unfamiliar names in qualifying. That is probably because our brightest youngsters have entered GB F10 which is also next week. I expect the 1st, 2nd and 4th seeds to qualify with very trouble. Ross Hutchins and Jim May have been unlucky and they will meet in the final round of qualys.
Martin Lee, James Aukland, Joshua Goodall, Matthew Smith and Arvind Parmar have qualified for the main draw with their ranking. Wild cards have been awarded to Jonathon Marray, Colin Fleming, Neil Bamford, and Alex Slabinsky.
It will be interesting to see what effect this will have on GB F10. Hopefully removing so many of our current players will give opportunities to the next generation.
That is an excellent win for Josh Goodall beating the 8th seed. He will face Tomislav Peric in the next round and on this form he could do well in this tournament.
However, it is a real shame that Colin lost after winning the first set. He has 25 points to defend from a GB satalite at the end of August, almost a third of his total. If he is going to cover that loss and maintain some forward momentum he has really got to start picking up points now.
I've worked out this odds for winning Manchester...Doesn't look great for the British guys. 5/1 Gilles Elseneer (1) 5/1 Antony Dupuis (2) 7/1 Chris Guccione (5) 15/1 Jaroslav Pospisil 15/1 Thomas Oger (q) 16/1 Massimo Dell'Acqua 18/1 Nicolas Tourte (8) 30/1 Luke Bourgeois (7) 30/1 Martin Lee (3) 30/1 Jean-Francois Bachelot 40/1 Arvind Parmar (4) 40/1 Gary Lugassy 40/1 Joshua Goodall 40/1 Frederik Nielsen 50/1 Nicolas Renavand 60/1 Aisam Qureshi (q) 60/1 Lovro Zovko 75/1 James Auckland 100/1 Toshihide Matsui (6) 100/1 Harsh Mankad 125/1 Tomislav Peric 150/1 Philipp Marx 250/1 Joseph Sirianni 400/1 Philipp Hammer 600/1 Jonathan Marray (wc) 2000/1 Federico Torresi 2000/1 Colin Fleming (wc) 5000/1 Ross Hutchins (q) 5000/1 Neil Bamford (wc) 5000/1 Matthew Smith10000/1 Alexander Slabinsky (wc)20000/1 Philip Stolt (q)
If you're taking bets, I'll have a fiver on Martin Lee at 30's!!!
is this the end for big arvs? some very diaapointing loses recently, his grass court season has been woeful and he only has nottingham challenger left on grass. His ranking slipped, he used to maintain himself with the odd challnger win a year but that doesnt seem to be coming a long anymore.

It is a great result for Josh, I dont know how he managed to go into Wimbledon with his ranking languishing at 400 ish - I saw Josh best Scoville Jenkins in final round qualifying at Roehampton and was very impressed. I hope he'll be able to continue his good form on the hard courts, but there is still plenty of points to play for on the grass - lets hop he canmake hay while the sun shines!
