Very poor result for Arv. I know we've said it before but is this the start of the slippery slope down the world rankings?

A very close match in qualifying saw Childs prevail - hopefully the afore mentioned lucky loser spot appears at some stage tomorrow for Colin.

Doubles:

Fleming and Murray combine again (3rd seeds) and play the locals Niland and Sorensen in round 1.
Marray pairs up with Adaktussen (4th seeds) and play Childs and Parmar.

Wow, a couple of great results.

First Bloomfield must be on a real high after Wimbledon coz that is a great result today. Also, nice to see Childs squeeking a close one. That is great. A real shame that Marray couldn't win. I'd love to see his rankings rise again.

I also feel bad that there was no LL spot for Colin.

Yes, excellent results from Lee Childs and especially Richard Bloomfield. Lets hope they can build on this. Michael Berrer is ranked 116 in the world, Richard must be brimmimng with confidence and good form. I hope he can make the most of it and win a few more rounds.

Do we know who is travelling to attempt to qualify in Rhode Island? I think most of the brits should give it a crack if they havew any chance of m aking the qualifying cut. Does anyone have an idea of what it might be? I wonder if Delgado might be bold enough to ask for a wild card into qualifying? He is obviously in excellent form and he could certainly pay the airfare. His Wimbledon prize money totalled £23K, not bad for a few dayts work!

If anybody knows anything about the Rhode Island tournament, perhaps they could start a new thread. I looked at their web site, but there is no information re who is playing.

Bloomfield should have the class to beat Nielssen, Nielssen has played only Futures events so far this year where he has had some success. His previous tournament was at the Edinburgh Futures event at the start of May, so he'll be pleased with his performance this week. I never take anything for granted with English players though - usually just when an Enlish player looks like making som ereally positive progress, they go and blow their opportunity....

If he wins today, he'll havew 197 points and his ranking will be on the verge of top 200! He reached the semifinal of the challenger in Tarzana in July last year, so he'll have to defend those points pretty soon... Good luck!!
