Ella beat Madison last week, so that should be encouraging for Mimi

When we think about our injured women, it's worth remembering that Madison has a permanent major shoulder problem, can't serve above 80 mph, say, and also loss of strength in her arm which, she claimed, is Complex Regional Pain Syndrome caused by a rare condition of reaction to intravenous needles, which the WTA used for drug testing. Hence her previous court case:

As someone whose ex had Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and used to work for the NHS, having CRPS is very difficult to deal with - one horrendous procedure involved flushing the nerves with a specific painkiller - I forget which one, ex for a reason - but I had to stay nearby in the hospital in case they potentially had a heart attack as the reaction to the treatment (as if I could do something about it; it was more in case I needed to give information, etc).

Fun stuff. Feel for her under those circumstances.

Admittedly, his case wasn't done via needles, but he said it was possible to be caused by many different factors, dependent on how the nervous system responded and all that.

Little bit of a joyful anecdote to throw at everyone there. Promise I won't do it again.

 Interesting, Silver ----

And, yes, please feel free to do it again

I feel for your ex (and you too!) - it sounds lie one of those things they don't understand very well ....

Mimi has won the first set 6-2

And Ella has an early lead too

Ella has quite a lot of tape on her left arm (above and below her elbow) - and, of course, she is left-handed

Two contrasting matches.
Mimi has been taken to a decider - 13 breaks of serve in 20 games.
Ella has lost the first set on a tiebreak - just two breaks of serve.

I watched a bit of Mimi's match and she seemed to be making a lot of errors, she kept overhitting. There was one marathon game when Mimi kept winning when serving one way and losing when serving the other way. Brengle's break points must have got into double figures before she finally clinched it.

Close but no cigar as Amy+ lose the Cal Poly wild card match up.

L16:- Aspen Chung (USA) / Amy Leather (GBR) UNR (UNR+UNR) [WC] lost to Natalie Lynch (USA) / Jessica MacCallum (USA) UNR (UNR+UNR) [WC]  3-6 7-6(4) 8-10

It was Mimi's 7th match in 7 days, with the toughest route through to the final last week and with a flight across the US thrown in for good measure.
