Not really, just playing for fun whilst spending time in Australia with friends.
With all due respect this is a professional tennis tournament and to enter I believe that Katy has to still be part of doping control so she isn't retired.
I think it's great that she is reconsidering her retirement. All she seems to have done in the last few years is endlessly rehab, play a bit then have to stop due to injuries. It muct be so disheartening and mentally exhausting so a break from competitive Tennis and just attempting a normal life was clearly what she needed. More players sould be encouraged to do the same.
I started a thread a while back about Players being able to have a 6 month rest and come back with a PR without the need for an injury.
Tennis players moan about the relentlessness of the tour but there is no reason not to take a break if required other than the risk to ranking.
Katy isnt retiring until the end of the year. The plan has always been to stay tennis fit and play occasionally until then to play something she has qualified for in December. When she said she had played her last professional tournament she might have meant WTA tournament rather than what would normally be regarded as the professional circuit. As far as anti-doping goes she is still ranked so is still is required to be compliant with the TADP whether she enters tournaments or not. But she won't be part of the pool that is subject to provide whereabouts and have testers randomly turning up.
But let's see whether she actually plays. This might have been something she entered before she decided to end her career.
That is pretty much what she told me. Just occasional tournaments for enjoment and to stay fit, with no emphasis on getting ranking points. Emmsie's point about the mental side is 100% correct - the break is so needed.
