Weeks 35 & 36 - US Open - Flushing Meadows, New York City, NY, USA (hard)

Play in the main draw in both the men's & the women's singles will begin at 09.30 EST (so 14.30 BST) on Sunday week (30th August).  The good news is that the men's defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz, will be returning to the fray.  smile  Inevitably, the Yanks are out to prove that they do everything bigger & better than everybody else - Russell Fuller's report on the prize money which will be awarded (e.g. $5.5m to each of the singles champions no - obscene! - & $140,000 to first round losers).  Fuller also comments on the measures the tournament is taking in response to various demands made by the players earlier in the year which resulted in their limiting their media appearances at Roland-Garros & Wimbledon to 15 minutes.

As part of the prize money structure, $2 million is being set aside for a fund to help the transition to retirement:

"The US Open will become the first Grand Slam to establish a Player Support Program. As part of the total 2026 compensation, the US Open committed an initial $2 million, equally split between men and women players, which will be held in an escrow account pending the finalization of details of the new program, with guidance and input from the newly formed Grand Slam Player Council. Designed to complement existing end-of-career pension funds, this new US Open program will bring a range of benefits for mid-career life events and retirement transitions. It will be built upon a simple definition of player eligibility without reliance on ranking tiers, making the program available to US Open main draw singles and doubles competitors." (Colette Lewis)

As someone who gets cross that many federations (including GB's) only seem to focus on youngsters and ignores the overall 'industry' of the sport, which includes older players and their pathway, which also discourages younger ones, I think this, in principle, is a good idea

Cam just outside the seeds (Bergs won meaning he takes the final seeding spot unless there are withdrawals)

Well that's blown things wide open. Just hope it doesn't open the door once more for Salty Sascha!

It's very sad but again 100% seagull. See you next year sometime, Jack. All the best.

I think most of us agree per earlier discussions.

I wonder what Andy is saying to him advice wise and if Jack is listening at all? Interesting test of their relationship.
