I'm not sure opting for these summer US W100s that are loaded with players prepping for US Open qualifying is the best option for her at this stage. She could have been seeded in the US W35. But kudos for accepting the challenge.

Sofia has had some good results this year and is benefitting from match time so I think it will be a competitive match and a really good measuring stick for her, shes playing above her current ranking but the question is how much

FQR: Sofia Johnson (GBR) WR503 [q13] def. Hanna Chang (USA) WR326 [q8] 6-1 ret.

I dont know if it was the heat or Chang had an injury but she looked like someone who didn't want to be out on court. She retired after a brief conversation with the physio without any treatment that i could see.

Goodness - hope Hanna's OK - but if anyone is going to get a bit of luck, nice that it's our Sofia

Yes, I do hope Hanna is OK. Sofia is now certain to be in the top 500 for the first time in the next rankings, now live ranked 489. We will have 16 in the top 500.

A pretty good attempt by Sofia against a higher ranked player. She was getting into the rallies and scoring some good points but was a little less consistent than her opponent.

Sofia + have given their opponents a w/o in their L16 match.
