Allegra seems to have been quietly having a very good year picking up points regularly and getting into higher tier tournaments as a result

She was ranked 1148 in December when I set up the predictions competition. She's up to WR720 in the new rankings, and GB No25 - from 35

That's a rapid climb, is her (seemingly) preference for clay likely to hamper how much she can rise more long term given most of our tournaments where she could get wildcards are hard or grass

Thanks for that info Lambda, does that mean she may appear in the odd tournament in the US thats hosted near her college but otherwise wont play many futures events? Hopefully it will be a benefit to her because she appears to have talent and desire. Is the US womens college system getting close to the mens in terms of preparing for a senior career?

Allegra has risen rapidly, helped to a very large extent because she has played a large number of events, in all four corners of the globe

She is extremely well funded, so my guess is that this will continue and she'll play events during the holidays, way more than most other college students

But being able to max out your points, because of circumstances, doesn't necessarily equate to talent. And it will be interesting to see how the desire pans out, once her mother is not in charge as such

She'll certainly be playing fewer. Whether she plays any outside of December and the summer will depend on the Head coach's philosophy. Most head coaches will allow their players to do their own thing in the autumn outside of commitments to the major college tournaments but not during the spring, some want players on campus throughout autumn to work with them on development and a select few allow their players to play pros at any time outside of the NCAAs. Allegra's head coach appears to be of the kind that insists players are committed to the team and on campus in semester time. Which is a long way of saying, once she joins she might not play a pro event until December, although their is a rare (for the US) red clay W15 at the end of October that she might ask to play.

The standard on the women's side is much stronger than it was just a few years ago, helped by more lucrative Name, Image and Likeness deals for the top players. In the current top 130, there are 10 women who left us college in the last 5 years, compared with 12 men. If you look further back there are only 2 women in the top 130 who left more than 5 years ago compared with 10 men.

Thanks CD, I guess as always funding is one of the main factors but her results appear to have progressed as shes played more suggesting shes learning and improving. Is she the most talented of the sisters, Ive seen others question whether Ophelia has the desire to play

Rose, who probably knows them best, thinks Hermione is the most talented
She's certainly got the best results for her age
(Not including Nat here)
Rose actually questioned Allegra's desire and focus - but that was a year ago and teenage girls change quickly

Last year there we had 90 women in Div I college tennis. I have a list of those expected to be in next season at https://gbtennisdata.github.io/women_us_college.html

Thanks for the link Lambda. It is difficult to keep track of all these women for those who don't follow college tennis closely - there are so many different conferences across the various levels.
