Fran has a lot of points to defend soon, so this week could be huge..

Yes, and she seemed to me to be in a fair bit better form then than she has been of late, even on clay. She really needs to get back closer to her best over the next couple of months.

She dropped ( 125 - 15 ) 110 points last week and is due to drop over half of her remaining 608 points at 13/07 by 14/09.

All the best to her !

Fran is really struggling, looks bereft of confidence and at the worst time as you say because of her points

That was gutsy from Fran, she let out a big roar after clinching the match

How far does Fran have to go this week to have any chance of making the US Open MD?

Theres not enough points available for her to get into USO main draw territory without more withdrawals than we've seen for a very long time for a grand slam. Winning the tournament this week will only put her up to WR 111 at best.

The damage was done when she lost early last week in a tournament she won last year

Things looked good for Fran when she peaked at no.65 in February but then there was the gym accident. She didn't win a single match on grass this year (should have beaten Gibson at least) and R1 defeats at Bogota and Rabat where she should have had deep runs didn't help either.

Agreed there's been lots of tournaments where she hasn't picked up the points we'd have hoped, I meant that the early exit in France last week meant she would almost certainly miss the US Open main draw because of the points drop
