Have your say regarding Player of the Month

Without beating around the bush, the Player of the Month voting numbers have fallen dramatically this season - from something like 44 votes average in 2024, to 39 in 2025 and down to 32 in 2026. Over 25%

12 votes may not seem a lot but it is quite major when we only get 32 in total!

When it was started it seemed to act as a means for board members to corale as a little community and anoint a favourite for the month. A number of folks have left and some new ones joined. It may be it has had it's time over the past 6 years and we should let it go. Let's see.

I have no idea why this is and so wanted to ask the board to let me know - in time honoured fashion a bit of a poll but I also want to get your feedback, to see if we / I can act on it!!

So please take a few seconds to vote and then to also have a say if you wish to! Each answer only gives a score, but if you can then write a comment and also say what you voted so I can align the feedback, that would be great!

Thanks - hopefully I can use any feedback to make it better!!

I have given it a week, so next Thursday, thank you

Obviously I run it and vote as a matter of priority - but that is just me and others will have different views!

I have put it here as if i put in the player of the month thread, I feel it is likely to get ignored, so apologies if that is a mistake!!

Please everyone who sees this, vote !!!!

Jon does so much on the forum and if say you have no interest in PoM then he wants to hear from you as much as anyone to build up as true a picture as possible.

i.e. give Jon the respect that the results here will be reasonably meaningful and informative.. Frankly thete is no excuse for anyone who has got to this thread not voting. And this is one instance where, while good to hear from folk, to me anonymous voting seems absolutely fine. Just vote !!!!

I voted for "I always vote as a monthly priority" because that is the case for me. Whatever your case, vote here !!!!

Just saying.

Thank you Indy! Yes to the above!

I always vote. The thing I love about PoM isn't really us anointing a winner but reading all the achievements that people nominate each month. I've taken so much more interest in areas like juniors and college tennis that I probably wouldn't have touched otherwise, but which give me background when players do break on to the main tour. Even if we don't have a vote, I'd be sad to see that aspect go.

Thanks Tanaqui - the nominations part of it is important and I thought about a whole separate poll on how that works, if it works etc!! But decided to hold back on that, but good to get comments on that as well.

I notice someone voted to let it die away - which is cool, I would genuinely be interested to hear if that is an "absolute" view or whether that person thinks it could be rescued for them - and, if so, how.

I won't comment further through the thread as I don't wish to be defensive or push back on genuine feelings, so will leave it there and hope others are willing to comment and add some colour to any vote they give.

I enjoy it because I learn about players that I have often overlooked due to trying to watch other tournaments. Therefore I agree with the above that the comments help in the short bios. Good to keep an eye on up and coming juniors as well and those taking the collegiate route that can pass you by.

Hi Jon. I voted that I do if I remember, but most months I do vote - it's just occasionally I decide to think about it for a few days and then miss the deadline. My memory isn't as good as it used to be! But I still totally support you continuing with this and I agree with Tanaqui that it's great to be able to review the best achievements of the month all in one place. It's very easy to moan about players losing so it's good to be reminded how much success we get as well.

I like to vote but occasionally I might forget. I like seeing the list of positive achievements each month and the variety of important wins across the different age and ability ranges. Please keep it going JonH and thank you for running it.

I almost always vote so I voted for voted as a priority rather than if I remember.

I don't always say who I vote for though...

I would miss the votes if it goes away but understand if Jon wants to concentrate his efforts elsewhere on the board/life. I enjoy seeing the spread of achievements and pretty much echo Var's thoughts.

Thanks for the various positive comments and I dont think my intent is to stop doing it. Dont think as I would be conscious if the overwhelming vote was to stop it!

Im keen to see if any nuggets come out in terms of attracting people who dont vote to start voting now and then or to make it more interesting, so any ideas welcomed. The positive feedback is also welcomed, albeit i wasnt searching for it.

Im glad people like the nominations process.

Lets see how it pans out over the next week, thank you for the feedback so far.

I ticked 'I do vote if I remember each month'

Actually, I think I've voted every single month

But I'm not sure I'd say it was a priority, as such

Anyway, I'm between the first and second option

Personally, I enjoy the nominations, reading them, sometimes making them, just seeing the highlights of the month, so to speak

I don't care who wins though, and often don't look, or forget to look - not sure if that's important, it doesn't matter to me, but just to say

But I do follow it, and vote, every month

I do vote pretty much every month, but couldn't honestly say it's a priority!
It is interesting to read about the achievements of our players and why people have voted the way they have. I usually check to see who's won.
A bit of fun. Thanks Jon!

Yes, I like it and usually vote. I occasionally nominate too. I like reading the comments.
