No singles entries (all in Nottingham !)

Tough start to their title defence

 Perhaps a good thing as it is stacked field. Especially in comparison to Queens. Berlin starting to become the main grass court tournament outside Wimbledon.

Berlin and Halle alike. As Lambda said, the tax treatment makes the German events more attractive to the players

Lost the first four games,but managed to hang on for the rest of the match, although never looking like winning.
