ATP Queens [other brits] - qualies + main draw

Alex Bogdanovic has been awarded the 4th wc into the main draw. Queens say that this is a reward for his impressive ranking rise.

I presume that the 5th wc will be announced tomorrow. Queens are definately enjoying using the suspense !

Well done to the suits at Stella.....wont be completely happy until I see another Brit with a WC...

I have looked at the current top 10 Brits now and looked where they were a year ago (23/05/06)...excluding Boggo and Parmar (Almost the same rank as last year).

Martin Lee - Rank May 05 = 667, now 257 a rise of 410 places.

R Bloomfield - Rank May 05 = 379, now 267 a rise of 112 places.

Jamie Baker - Rank May 05 = 586, now 292 a rise of 294 places.

Matt Smith - Rank May 05 = 529, now 347 a rise of 182 places.

Alan Makin is 96 places worse off this year than last.

So it should between Martin Lee or Jamie Baker....I'd give it to the latter...!

Whilst I admire the loyal support for Jamie Baker on this messageboard, Martin Lee is clearly more deserving. He has boosted his ranking more than Jamie recently, and has been playing challengers and is better suited to grass.

I want Jamie to be given all the help he can too, but he's not really played challengers regularly yet. I think its his year next year, and the extra 12 months practice and rankings rises will leave him better equipped to make use of the helping hand.

queens so far has shown its primary concern is publiclty so to form i think martin would get the wc. alex is semi well know and would probably be seeded during the qualies, and as no one else is even close to him ranking wise, ommiting him, when he is still relativly young would just be vindictive.

go boggo go, lets get some wins here, make the 2nd round, meet rafa and take him out

Interesting reading Drew, however surely if we're going by ranking rises, Colin Fleming's amazing rise of over 800 places in 2005 should make him no 1 in line for a wc !

In reply to johnnylad's post: I agree, on basis of their tournament results, Martin lee deserves to get the wc, he's better on grass at this point in time. However, if they're looking to the future it should be between Jamie and Richard. Andy Murray had less challenger success than Jamie Baker last year when he got his Queens wc but we all know what happened. I think both Jamie and Richard are very much ready for the opportunity to play several ATP events this summer and even if they don't win any matches, the experience they'll gain will benefit them enormously in coming months.

Having said that, if Martin misses out it'll be very harsh on him. That's why I think that Queens should have given all 3 of them wcs aswell as Boggo.

I limited to the guys in the Brit top 10.....seemed to make sense ! Hopefully Colin can get into the top 200 and go for a WC next year !!!

I just looked on the steveg site to try to answer the above query, and according to them Jamie Baker has got the remaining wild card? More research needed. . .

There's already a thread in this section on Jamie getting the wc, Mad !

I don't believe it !!! Colin Fleming hasn't been given a wc into the Queens qualies draw ! This seriously sucks !

WCs are Mackin, Lee, Bloomers and Kennaugh. Parmar got in direct.

Lee just missed out on direct acceptance into the main draw by 1 ranking place which would have meant that Fleming/Auckland would have got the wc.

That's not good news at all for Colin who needs more singles practise on the grass.

I've just checked my emails, I sent one to the tournament office a while ago asking why they'd give 3 precious wildcards to foreigners when there were many Brits who deserved the spots.

They basically replied that the British players had done little to deserve their support. They also said that the 2 remaining wcs had been given to the LTA to hand out.

I find that reply basically quite outrageous !

Thank god that the LTA did get the final wcs otherwise none of the Brits would have got any. I get the impression that the twats at Queens don't know anything about British tennis !!!

And Philippoussis, Fish and Lopez have? I swear the LTA must live on a different planet to the rest of us.

I have just seen that Ivo Karlovic has to qualify. Now, if any foreign player deserved a wildcard to this event, surely Ivo did, after his brilliant run here to the final last year, rather than the three useless gumps that got them?
