I see that Jack has withdrawn late.

He did so well to reach the final here last year and now drops from WR 28 to live ranked 46 with clearly other players still having plenty Madrid points to add.

Hopefully the fact that it is such a late withdrawal means he wasn't far off and that there is no particular further problem. And he is just not quite right with either or both of the arm bone bruising issue or the knee issue that caused him to retire in Barcelona.

Edit: except ah, I see that he is out of Rome too.

Not too bothered about ranking - just getting court time is the main thing and he will be a dangerous floater in any draw he plays

It seems it is the knee, and it isnt terrible news, I dont think: the BBC reports

"An aggravated tendon in my knee means I am not able to play in Madrid and Rome," Draper said.

"It's frustrating for sure, but I am thankful it isn't anything more serious.

"Recovery is going well and I feel good about my chances of being fit for Roland Garros. I am looking forward to building momentum from there."

The French Open begins in Paris on 24 May, but Draper is considering playing an ATP event in either Hamburg or Geneva the week before.
