Katie loses 6-4 in the third. Not having a good trip

Although at least shes got through two long three setters apparently unscathed. So that's something.

Another typically gritty win by Harriet

Worth pointing out, though, that if this forum had been the other way round, there'd be a lot all saying:

'Grasnova, how could you, you served two double faults in the last game, you're so unclutch, why are the Brits so weak, why don't we have better psychological trainers......'

It's tennis ....

Nicely ground out Harriet. After a tough period it's good she's getting through these sorts of contests even if I'd rather she won more easily!

Harriet has got hardly anything to defend until Ilkley, so a great chance to bump up that ranking approaching Paris and Wimbledon

Yes, she had a really unproductive few months last year, particularly following Smellgate in April.

Took its time but good for her that she is now so much more back battling away and much more showing her capabilities.

Just three 2-point counters to defend, Rome, Madrid and Roland Garros qualifying - so a win at any of those will lift her further.

Just watched the whole match, on replay on the ITF site. Unfortunately, Katie played virtually the whole match with what looked like a lower back problem, giving her no stability on her left leg. She deserves a lot of credit for pushing through the pain, showing great determination to win the 2nd set on tie-break whilst hobbling after every rally. Some mobilisation by the physio, before the 3rd set, helped for a while, and Katie went gung-ho on her shots, but the problem gradually came back. The frustration was evident, she is obviously physically fit and raring to play, but the issue really compromises her game.
