Week 7 - ITF M15 - The Hague, Netherlands (hard - indoor)

R1: (7) Anton Matusevich (GBR) WR 694 v Stijn Paardekooper (NED) WR 934

I also note that Peter Alam is in the qualifying draw, and won his QR1 match, but now is playing for Lebanon?

Sorry if I'm late to the party but when did he switch tennis nationalities?

Bit of a mystery!  He's a Merseysider by birth, but there are no other real biographical details on the ATP site & although a search on Google brings up an apparent entry for his ITF player profile ("Peter Alam (23) is a tennis player from Lebanon..."), if you click on the link, it does no more than take you to a page showing only his singles & doubles playing record, just as it does if you search for him on the site itself!  That said, he doesn't appear to have played between the Monastir M15 in the middle of October last year, when he was still playing under the Union Flag & retired at 2-5 in his QR1 match against Valentin de Carvalho, & this week's tournament (long-term injury?), when boom, he's playing for The Lebanon.  Best I can do, I'm afraid.  Perhaps someone else on here will have more of an idea.  I didn't even notice his name in qualies, conceivably because of the Lebanese flag against his name!

Thanks, SC, for following this up - I'm just curious ....

The only thing of note I found to add is this:

https://pacifictigers.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/peter-alam/4947

It's his US college profile (which says he comes from Manchester but, for a southerner, Manchester, Merseysider, it's tomartoes, tomAtoes,as far as I'm concerned.... )

However, I do see it says:

 Personal

Son of Faouzi and Tatiana.

And the name 'Faouzi' sounds as though it could well be Lebanese so perhaps he's switched to his dad's nationality, through allegiance, family loyalty, financial help, who knows......

If you came up North and said to a Merseysider they were a Manc or vice versa, you wouldn't get out alive....

So I believe biggrin

(and I should add that I was brought up by a true blue scouser (of the Evertonian variety))

But as I've told my brother I'm going 'up north' next week, because I've just picked up a cheapie ticket to Oxford, you'll get the problem smile)
