Round 1 doubles.

Irwin and Wire lost to 4th seeds Hadash and Kolik of Israel 6-3 7-6.

Pity for the boys to draw seeds in the first round

Irwin has had an ok draw for the singles.

Round 1 - Irwin GBR 750 vs Laurent Bram LUX 1033.

Laurent is 22, and has lost his last 6 matches. 2 Davis cup defeats to Seppi and Volandri which is hardly surprising, 1 futures first round and two venezualan satellite first rounders and a loss in a challenger qualy. So hopefully he thinks his world is about to end and Richard Irwin will beat him!

Poss Round 2 - Rasmus Norby 854 or Jeremy Wurtzman, 4th seed 514. Wurtzman hasn't won a main draw match since March and Norby lost in the final of Slovenia futires 1 last week, so it could be Norby.

Quite hopeful for Richard Irwin this week

I think Irwin can beat Norby. Norby's round one opponent may have been seeded but hasn't won for ages.

Great result Richard!

No he didn't, he beat Richard Wire (a Brit with one ranking point) 4 & 4 after the no. 4 seed withdrew. So that should mean Richard Irwin has a good chance of reaching the QFs.
