 Is there ever a time where a players number one is actually ranked below the teams number 2 or lower? Eg Luca is ranked 14, plays 3 - are Wake Forests top 2 ranked above him? Or do San Diego have number 2 or 3 ranked higher than Ollie?

That may sound daft but presumably it can happen?

Ella is 3-0 with wins against the No 119 and 2 unranked players. That will not be worth many points. Added to that is that currently it's a player's best 7 wins count (this increases up to best 15 wins as the season progresses) and as Ella only has 3 wins she is carrying 4 0 point 'wins' - they add up the points for the best 'n' wins deduct all loss points and divide by 'n' for the ranking points score. Ella is in by for the strongest conference so will have many opportunities to pick up decent ranking points during the season.

Talia is playing No5. She is 7-2 for the season (5-1 in team play). But she hasn't played any player currently in the rankings so her wins will be worth very little and her losses will hurt her ranking score. Looking at the schedule, I think the only opportunity she will have to play a ranked player will be when Clemson plays UNC in April unless she moves up the order. So I don't see Talia being ranked this year unless she wins all her matches when she might be able to creep in to the top 125.

The line up is required to be in order of ability allowing for form and injury. But this is subjective opinion and not based on any ranking or rating, but they can be used to argue a case. The opposition coach can protest if they think someone is playing out of order. If the coaches don't settle this before singles start, they'll play and it'll go to committee who if they agree with the opposition coach, the matches for all players out of position will be forfeited. Some conferences require their lineups to be approved for the week ahead beforehand to avoid matches being forfeited. Teams can usually get away with playing someone 1 below where they should be but they can't as one team found last year get away with playing someone who had been losing at No 6 all year at No 2 to sacrifice that position so everyone moves down to get wins at 3,4,5 and 6.
