Potential GB women in Aus Open qualifying

Aus Open qualifying prospects have been discussed in a few threads recently so I thought I would set up a specific thread with the latest rankings points positions.

As paulisi says in the Canada W75 thread, Harriet has essentially secured her place with her progress to the SF there. So that makes 1

There have been various guesstimates about the number of points that will be needed by the qualifying entry cut-off - ie. rankings at 22/12, from 300 to 330. I've previously gone with about 320. But of course the cut-off position and the points for that position will only finally become clear at the entry date, and even then will no doubt drift down with withdrawals.

There are 5 contenders with guaranteed points at 22/12 of over 200. Katie Swan only just ( so still well away ), 3 in the 270s ( so looking much more realistic but still a decent number of points no doubt still required ) and Harriet ( now secure ). Looking at their points this coming Monday 03/11, only Jodie then has further counting points due off by the entry date and it's rather a lot. So in order of guaranteed points ( 03/11 points minus net points due to come off ) we have:

1. Harriet :  353 - based on her SF so far in Canada

2. Jodie :  456 - 178 = 278

3. Lily :  275

4. Mimi :  273

5. Katie S :  201

I have ignored Heather since she will miss the Aus Open with injury, and Marni drops below Katie on guaranteed points ( to 181 ) with Mika on 180.

Hopefully Katie B won't enter the equation but as currently live ranked 99 on 744 points ( no points due off by MD entry date 08/12 but will any points be added?  ) she is not secure in the main draw.

There are a few tournaments coming up that may offer the chance of more points. Next week, Katie B in the WTA125 in Austin and Mimi Xu in the W35 in Liberec. The following week Katie S is listed at the W50 in Brisbane. On the 17th Mimi and Katie S are listed in the W75 in Sydney and Jodie at the W75 in Petange or the W50 in Trnava and Mimi at the W50 in Chihuahua.

There are 2 W125 in France in December, the 1st one is 1st to 7th of December so would count for the MD, the 2nd is the following week so would only be suitable for those looking for a last gasp qualifying spot.
Katie B's season has been so bad that I'm not sure it would really benefit her to play, just take some time off, give the body and mind a break, get some decent training in and accept that that may mean missing out on a MD spot.
Katie S could potentially enter both of those (or Dubai) if she's close to the cut off and feeling good.
Mimi should make it with one more good run.
Harriet is almost certainly in now, although a spot in the Final this week would be better. She usually finishes her season around now but, after a torrid year, she's hit some decent form so it would be a shame not to add atleast one more tournament to her schedule.

I can't see Katie S leaving Australia for those tournaments. Although she has withdrawn from this week she is entered for the following two weeks in a W50 in Brisbane and a W75 in Sydney

As Jodie has withdrawn fairly late from all tournaments over the last 6 weeks there has to be some doubt as to whether she will play this.

I understand that the 2026 Australian Open cut-offs might be immediately following the WTA and ATP Finals this year.

That would be peculiar and ridiculously early ( many folk think they are already too early ). For as long as I can remember the Slam cut-offs have been 6 weeks before the first Monday of the MD for the MD cut-off and 4 weeks before for the qualifying cut-off. That would give us 8th December and 22nd December respectively.

Clearly less is happening in the intervening period with regard to the Aus Open, with season closures particularly for the top players. But down the ranks there would be plenty to play for and potentially some very different rankings a month or so down the line.

Any source? Maybe, a new cut-off coordinator, a Mr Burrage?

Makes sense to me. Stops people having to overplay into the off season just to make AO. I like it.

Edit: I like it more for main draw. If it's for qualifying as well then I'm not entirely sure it's necessary as there are events on for there sort of level through December anyway.

Looks like we have loads of men in Aus qualis.
Only Jomo needs to find a couple more wins.

Mimi was on the list for the W35 in Liberec but she is not in the draw.
