K Paterson [GB][4] bt A Cunningham [GB] 6-7[9], 6-2, 7-5
A Smith [GB][10] bt R Hall [GB] 6-1, 7-6[5]
A Hawkins [GB] bt L Cox [GB][11] 6-1, 6-0
There are only two qualies rounds in Surbiton. Berry plays Wheeler tomorrow in the final qualies round, that'll be a tough match for Melissa as Wheeler is ranked over 300 places higher at 322. She's a former top 150 player and plays mainly on the challenger circuit while Melissa competes mainly in futures. Still, Melissa's got a good grass-court game, here's hoping for an upset.
Unranked 16 year old Amanda Cunningham did extremely well to give Karen Paterson such a tough match !!! 11-9 in the 1st set breaker - quite a mammoth 1st set ! Karen's experience looks to have told in the final 2 sets.
I'm amazed that Hawkins beat Cox that easily, maybe Cox was injured ?
Aswell as Keothavong and the 3 wcs, Britain are guaranteed 4 players in the main draw as qualifiers, 4 of the sections are all British !
Looking at the draw, I'm very much looking forward to these match-ups:
Curtis v Khan: Two extremely promising young guns go head to head. I was surprised that Jade decided to give RG juniors a miss but it's probably a good decision. Last year she had the best week of her pro career on grass when she reached the final of the Wimby wc playoff, upsetting several experienced British players who were ranked much, much higher. I don't know much about Natasha Khan's game, has anyone here seen her play ?
Possible rd2:
Keen v Stoop: Amanda seems to have changed her mind on retiring and appears to be playing full-time again now, since her return she's been on top form and her grass-court game should be too much for Stoop if this match occurs. I don't think that Georgie's really got the returning game to trouble Amanda and having been playing futures events on clay recently, she may find the transition to grass a little tough.
Paterson v Smith: 17 year old Anna Smith had some great results in GB 10K futures earlier this year, reaching the semis of Bath and the quarters of Bournemouth. She plays her best tennis on fast courts and Karen Paterson struggled in rd1 of qualies so Smith could cause an upset here.
A real shame that Bally was unable to play her, apparently she's suffered another injury setback I was so hoping that she'd be able to spend two weeks practising on grass after RG qualies and then make her return to tournament action here on her best surface but it looks like her plans have been blighted by injury again.
Surbiton offered her a wc but she wasn't able to accept it due to the injury.
Hopefully she'll be fit enough to take place in next week's WTA event in Birmingham.
Back to Surbiton qualies, it'll be interesting to see how Danielle Brown does here, she's seeded 7th and has had a great year so far raising her ranking by several hundred places and in one challenger she took a set off former top 50 player Tamarine Tanasugarn. She should win rd1 against Melissa Gibb but could face a tough match in the qualifying round tomorrow against the 8th seed from Holland.

Made a mistake about the Paterson result - Karen won 6-2, 7-5
Rest of rd1 results:
T Rolle [USA] [16] bt T Lock [GB] 6-4, 6-3
A Keen [GB] [3] bt J Bone [GB] 2-6, 6-3, 6-2
G Stoop [GB] bt N Hillyer [GB] 6-0, 6-2
C Peterzan [GB][5] bt L Dossor [GB] 6-3, 7-6[5]
S Coles [GB][6] bt S Stallard [GB] 6-1, 6-1
N Khan [GB][14] bt J Curtis [GB] 7-5, 2-6, 6-2
D Brown [GB][7] bt M Gibb [GB] 6-2, 6-2
B McCarthy [Hol][8] bt E Thomas [GB] 6-2, 6-2
C Ricketts [GB] bt E Kozhokhina [Rus][8] 6-3, 3-2 ret
Easy wins for Stoop, Coles, Peterzan and Brown over much lower ranked British opposition. This means that the anticipated Stoop-Keen match-up will happen in rd2. I'm very surprised that Amanda lost a set 6-2 against Julia Bone who's ranked much, much lower ! Performance of the day so far must go to Claire Ricketts for her superb victory over the Russian 8th seed ranked 200 places higher !
Didn't realise these matches took place today aswell !
C Wheeler [Aus][1] bt M Berry [GB] 6-3, 6-1
G Stoop [GB][15] bt A Keen [GB][3] 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 ret
K Paterson [GB][4] bt A Smith [GB] 6-3, 6-4
C Peterzan [GB][5] bt A Hawkins [GB] 6-1, 2-6, 7-5
S McCarthy [Hol][8] bt D Brown [GB][7] 6-0, 6-0
Great win for Georgie Stoop, that's a real shock result. I thought that she might have a chance after Amanda dropped a set 6-2, this morning. Amanda retired in set 3 with an injured back. I hope it isn't too serious and that she's ok to play WTA Birmingham qualies next weekend. What on earth happened to Danielle Brown, I wonder if she got injured, I hope not.
Khan v Coles is on court now, we're guaranteed our 9th Brit into the main draw as a result of that match. Hopefully Claire Ricketts can make it 10 Brits with a win over Ireland's Rachael Dillon this evening
