I wonder what altitude this is played at?  I found it very difficult playing at high altitude - all my best shots went out!

I thought it was a tournament that EWS had played in previously, but I was wrong. Wiki says Verbier is at an altitude of 1500m and is a ski resort.

 Yes, I went skiing there many years ago. We went for an evening meal high up in the mountain and then skied back to the resort in the dark with flaming torches to help us find the way.
