Week 31 - W75 Lexington, USA

Katie Swan has made the cut into qualifying - seeded 12 and facing a Chilean player I have never heard of, Asuncion Jadue, who is a wildcard. Thought I'd post this, as it has been touch and go whether Katie S would make the cut and of course she pulled out through injury from her last tournament.

Asuncion Jadue is a college player who played at 5 and 6 in her 1st year for a rather poor Kentucky team last year - her wild card is because this event is held at the University's tennis center. She should be easy pickings for Katie.

Ooh I was wondering when she would play again.

Hopefully she is fit and healthy and can get a few wins and some points on the board.

She published a smiling gym workout photo on instagram so she's over her tiredness ..

Hoping she can go deep again to accumulate points

Sounds like about as good as an opponent as Katie could have hoped for. No wonder I'd never heard of her!

Just had a panic as Katie not showing on the schedule but on closer inspection they've put one match on twice and her opponent isn't on there playing anyone else so fingers crossed it's an admin error and she is last on court 5.

ETA Found her but her opponent may have changed. ITF live scores is a bit of a mess.

Katie's opponent is now Jessica Faialla and the match is the 4th one on Court 5 - in other words last on court. Faialla is currently world ranked 663, so not such an easy match for Katie.

Wet? weather causing play to be temporarily suspended [Mon], and the forecast over the next 4 days isn't great either. Wonder if there is an indoor venue nearby?

The site has four indoor courts as well as 18 outdoor courts. Used for the University of Kentucky mens and womens teams.

Didn't Katie win this tournament a few years ago?

Yes, 2022, beat Jodie Burrage in the final in 3 sets. (I remembered but checked on Wiki)

Katie wins 6-3 6-1

Watched the last couple of games. Katie was moving well and hit a few winners on the run. Bodes well.
