Freya P put up a good show - she really took the game to her opponent

But the Chinese girl was having some difficulty with her left hip and it's a shame that Freya couldn't really take advantage

QR1: Freya Peet UNR (age 17) LOST to (q14) Tianmi Mi (CHN) WR 877 6-1 3-6 6-1

Freya Christie was relatively cruising in the first set - EM WS playing well, but Freya being a touch above

And Freya served for it at 5-3

And then Em wouldn't go away, and Freya did her classis slight wobble, can't decide whether to attack or go for consistency, has no real gameplan, gets cross, and suddenly she's lost the first set TB

Odd second set as well. Emily had 1-0 *40-0, got broken, broke again. Had a point for 5-3* but Freya broke back and then really should have broken to take the set, but had to go through a tiebreak. It was a slog, but Freya got a handy net cord at 5-4* and took it.

She's now cruising in the third, Em's resistance has sort of faded understandably.

I've not watched Freya play singles for a while, when did she get so, well, lazy? So many balls she just doesn't even try for.

Ha no she was fairly safe I think and sees it through 6-1 in the third.

Feel for Em, she was very close and played some nice tennis across the whole match, and will be very disappointed especially as she had a chance to put clear water between them early in the second but couldn't quite manage it.

Really this one was always though more about whether Freya could string enough sensible tennis together - she just has so much more power to play with. And eventually she did.

Freya playing sensible tennis ? - that must deserve a POM nomination. It's been a while.

It seems Emily was given quite a hard time by trolls on social media after the match.

She also posted about the rough day she had had with travel, meals and injury all before the match. Then she basically ran out of energy.
