I guess it is only 3 weeks since Wimbledon ended. Any player who went to Washington would face 7 weeks on the road - Washington, 3 weeks for Toronto and Cinci, the week before the US Open (possibly playing) and then two weeks for US Open.
Its a hard sport from that perspective and taking a few weeks off now for R & R, maybe some home comforts, get rid of tired brains and niggles, I think its a good call - Id be at home eating my Mums home made lasagne, thats for sure.
Maybe more players have been taking note of the widespread replies ( including on here ) to the top players' moans about poor them and the relentless schedule - "Err, actually you are allowed to take a rest, it is your choice to play or not".
Money, ranking points, rest and go again - your choice

Yes
I've seen the youngsters off on family holdiays - Mika to Poland, and Hannah somewhere European with sun and Mediterranean vegetation ?
And that's all for the good - family holidays are important and you generally take one in summer
Same for people in couples - your partner might put their foot down and say: for pity's sake, can't we at least have two weeks off from tennis - at a nice time of year - early December doesn't count - and take a regular holiday?
And, yes, there will be other ones who just need to go home, chill, watch cr*p movies, help out a bit, go out jogging once or twice, but basically get some home comforts, as you say, and a bit of 'normalcy'
Definitely - and like any self employed person or freelancer (I know as I now am one again) its easy to work another week and chase the money (or the points) and not take time off. Its really important to take that break and get yourself and family ready for the next push.

Definitely. harri and Henry and Julian and Lloyd ditched Washington to get that time off and get back to normal; Harri went on holiday and then home in finland, Henry back in the states with his girlfriend etc. And as a doubles pair, time away from each other isnt a bad thing also!
