James Hopper

Have we acquired another player?  Last week, when he & Ben Jones won the doubles title as wild cards in Monastir, the 24-year-old was quite clearly flying the US flag according to the ITF site.  The ITF is still showing him as representing the US.  Sofascore this week has assigned him a Union flag & the ATP reckons he's one of ours (apparently born in Birmingham - presumably not Birmingham, Alabama!).

I would think that it could be the James Hopper from New Jersey that played college tennis for Case Western and Virginia. Age, height etc match

Various other websites show him as GB also, but they may take their feed from a single source

In these LTA rankings lists from October 23 and Sept 24, Hopper is listed at 359 and 393 respectively in the British mens doubles lists. So the LTA saw him as British then it seems; in

In this round up from last week, the LTA describe him as American.

Lambda reported on Hopper as being maybe British, maybe American in the college thread in January

britishtennis.activeboard.com/t70093312/general-college-chat-202425/

So it has been reported on but probably missed as he wasnt playing ITF events

His profile on both college websites says from New Jersey.

He's a British/US dual national. Born in Birmingham, England and moved to the US aged 8 years.

It became clear in his interviews during the college season he viewed himself as American.

 Thanks for clarifying, Lambda.

To repeat what I said on this week's Monastir thread, the ITF is now showing Hopper as GBR on both its Monastir draw sheet & its live scoreboard, so it's beginning to look as though he may have changed his allegiance & unless anyone has any violent objection, I propose to continue to track his progress.

Good stuff and his ITF profile is also British.

he can also join Jan C and Oli C as open book for nominations to player of the month etc!

We do seem to gain rather more than we lose smile

I remember Rhett Purcell quitting the GB flag for NZ

And Emily Lunde (Sanz Lund?) going to Norway

But those are the only ones I recall from recently, even including juniors

Someone might correct me though biggrin

Was there an Emily Lindh-Gallagher, who went to Sweden? Or am I Confusing with your Emily Lunde above?!

No, I think you've got the name right - I'm the one who's confused !

Although I'm pretty sure she went to Norway ..... (but might be wrong on that too)
